Hello-

I've been working on our site by myself for a long time and need to increase our rankings on the search engines.

I'm quite confused on a few things. I'm updating the Page Title, descriptions, and keywords for each page.

My question is - at the bottom of the page editor it has a box for a Custom Meta Tag. Do I need to enter any information here? I filled out the form above, but would entering more info in the custom meta tag part be helpful?

Also - do I need to fill out anything in the header box? If so, what kind of information do you write in there? Can this help in improving rankings?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The most important thing is the Title followed by the description

Have a look at google listings, Your title is the first line of the results and the description is the next two lines.

Your title should not be more than about 66 characters any more doesn't get shown.

Your key words and phrases should be at the start of the page title and should be unique primary key phrases.

The description should be about 75 - 100 characters and should be different from the title and you should write to entice and it should be unique for each page.
Don't go mad with the keywords 5-8 for each page

Google doesn't care about meta keywords.

Body content is king and primary keywords should be in the first paragraph. This should also be emboldened.

Your main thing for rankings is incoming links, The key thing about Google is Page rank which is its proprietry way of ranking pages and is in part based on the number of incoming links to your site - it uses this as a way of determining your relative importance.

It discounts reciprocal links due to abuse! That doesn't mean don't have them as this can be a way of driving direct traffic to your site.

If relevant, try and get a listing in the Google local business results, usually at the top of a page - not always relevant for all businesses. You'll need a Google account for this.

Custom meta tag - ignore for ranking purposes.

I hope this helps

What does that mean?

Thank you sooo much - very helpful reply!

Do I need to worry about the header box in the site spinner program?

I believe Andrew means that it should stand out. Make key items in bold or italic text.

The custom header box in the SiteSpinner Page Editor is there only if you need to add special codes to your page, such as additional CSS style codes or javascript code. If you do not use these things, you can ignore it.
