My first ever question here. I've been playing with webdwarf for about a year but never tried to publish until today.
First I could not publish with WD publisher (no connection) that went on for about 4 hours. I changed firewall settings after reading here but no luck. Then I tried the publisher within XP after reading here and no go with that either. Came back here and read some more. Published to disc and tried to publish with Filezilla. OK I got something then, text published but no images, no gradients, no title graphics. What am I doing wrong? I've been trying for about 9 hours, (no lie). Very frustrated. I am trying to publish to a subdomain just for a test. I really like WD and I can do a decent design job and I actually landed a client after he saw my work on the desktop but now I can't publish. I tried creating the folders on my site as suggested here: /image /geometry. Still no go. It's quite obvious I don't have a clue. Can someone please help? Here's the address: http://www.info.thatvintagecollector.com/ |

You do need geometry and image folders the the root folder of your site -- alongside your index.html file.
If you have already created the folders, they may still be empty. If so, use Filezilla to upload the whole geometry and image folders from your local publish directory to your site. Then use Filezilla to check that you have files in your site's geometry and image folders. |

OK, I did create /image /geometry folders under the info.thatvintagecollector folder but could not find a way to upload from my computer to my site.
And how do I use Filezilla to check the files in the folders? I'm guessing they are empty since nothing shows. I never would have dreamed publishing could be so hard |

I am not familiar with Filezilla but suppose it works in a similar way as other independent ftp clients. You should have two panes, one representing your HD and the other your server (when connected). As Bruce mentioned the image and geometry folders should be in the same place where you have your index page. Double click on image folder and see if there are any images there (probably not from what I can see). Select the images in your HD pane and upload them to the image folder on server.

Thanks for the responses. I'm at my wits end. I don't have a clue. I have the folders in my HD pane as Roma said.
left pane: VM lake_states_mud_racers geometry image right pane: info.thatvintagecollector.com geometry image Then directly across in the right pain I have my folders on my site. The only way I can see to upload from the right to left pane for the geometry image folders is to right click in the left pane and click upload, when I do that it creates folders under the ones I have already created in the left pane (on my site) info.thatvintagecollector.com geometry geometry image image when I click on them it shows objects but they don't show on my site. |

I apologize for being such a dunce but I've been trying to publish this page since 2:00PM, it is now 2:23AM. I've tried everything I can think of and have had at least 100 failed attempts.
I've screamed many times and now head hurts but I sure would like to figure this out. |

You need to upload the image and geometry objects only to the existing image/geometry folders on your server. Try to select a couple of images on your HD and drag them to the image folder on your server and see if they show.

Are you sure browsers don't have anything to do with this problem. I read another post where the poster said publishing problems went away when switching to IE from FF.
I have Google Chrome as my default (not by choice), I've tried very many times to change this but my computer tells me the only to remove as default is to uninstall. And in my Filezilla panes the files are listed as 'Chrome html' I'm about ready to uninstall but it's a huge download for 44K dial up and took the better part of day to download it. Any thoughts on browser interference? |

I don't think that the browser has anything to do with your particular problem, I use IE8 and FF and can see your index.html page ok but can't find the images. Let's go back a step and check that you publish to the right location. Can you see where your index.html page is located on your server?

OK
under the public_html file I'm publishing to to info.thatvintagecollector.com. Am I supposed to be be publishing the html file or the ims file? I've tried both |

actually I've tried index.html, the IMS file and even tried SVG, I don't know if there's anything I haven't tried
I tried drag and drop from folder to folder, the objects show in the FTP but not on the site. |

If I got it right you have a structure on your server that looks something like this:
/info.thatvintagecollector/public_html/ index.html That means that /info.thatvintagecollector/public_html/ is your root directory. Upload your image and geometry folders to that directory. |

Am I just an idiot? For the life of me I never imagined such problems.
And why doesn't the publisher work in webdwarf? sure would make things lots easier if it did. Is sitespinner this impossible? If so I'd never pay 50 cents much less 50 dollars |

I have been using SS for the last 3 years and can't say I have experienced any publishing problems (except once after changing to a new computer). I assume that the publisher in WD is the same as in SS, in which case it's just a question to get the settings right and if you have an active firewall don't forget 'passive mode'.
When you previously created/uploaded the image and geometry folders was it to the publish_html directory? |

I'm using a linux server with Cpanel
the folders are in a vertical list. if I click on public_html it drops down and info.thatvintagecollector.com (subdomain) is below that |

The main question is in what directory is your index.html page. If you click on info.thatvintagecollector.com does it show another public_html there as well with an index.html page?

I've uploaded both folders to to the file you've suggested and get the same same results
the first 30 attempts went through with no failed transfers, now I get at least 5 failed transfers with each attempt but still the sucesfull transfers never show on my site I'm beginning to think filezilla works about as well as FF works for me, which is not very well |

yes and no. in my control panel on the site it shows index.html but not in the FTP I apologize for being so testy but this is crazy |

Can you take a screenshot of the Filezilla panes and e-mail that image to me? My e-mail address is in my public profile.
