If you use Chrome and IE please do have a look at AimHi Publishing
I have now removed all of the unnecessary 'copies' and replaced with 'includes'. When viewed in IE it works superbly...only the central object changes. But in Chrome it seems to reload every page every time! It looks awful to me. Any comments or suggestions please? mccifa |

To me it doesn't look that awful in Chrome. Browsers vary in how they redisplay pages. In some cases there will be an obvious refresh and in others not. This will improve as the browser gets more of your pages stored in its cache.
Looking at the images for your form_email_menu page, (just picking one random page) I see one image that is not an include: pag471geo507shd428pg239p57.png. Any image name including a page number, in this case pg239, is not an include. This seems to be an excellent chance to use an i-frame for your central window as that seems to be the only content that changes -- that should entirely eliminate your refresh problem. Your feedback form would be too big to fit in the i-frame without a vertical scroll bar. I suggest squeeze that up by having only one comment field. Most of us are lucky to get one comment field filled out, and here you are expecting two!!! |

Thanks Bruce & well spotted! I had 'included' that object on most pages but had not selected 'include' d'oh!
Feedback forms are rarely completed as people can't be bothered. I just include them to show it's a responsible business and can be contacted. I'm not sure what you mean by using an i-frame to make the pages load faster...how would it do that please? The site owner won' have scroll boxes on there as he hates them...and made me change one back LOL when I first amended the site. Thanks again. mccifa |

I expect in your case the i-frame would be only marginally faster as the browser would not have to fetch and rebuild the static parts of the page, including any images that you might forget to "include".
The big advantage for you is that it would fix your refresh problem: the browser need change only the part that has changed. An i-frame eases maintenance too. Instead of maintaining nine very similar pages, you would have one main page and nine i-frame pages, all different and considerably smaller in file size. |

Hi Bruce
This is fascinating, though I'm afraid this aged individual just doesn't understand, LOL! I have used i-frames to call up PDF files and website pages, but that is within a frame contained in a standard page, so I just can't see how this would work. In your example it seems to imply that I just need 1 standard 'page' and that in some way a different i-frame content can be called up?? Sorry...confused! mccifa |

I think what Bruce is trying to say is that by using an iFrame, your index page will remain the same, and does not need refreshing.
By changing the link, only the content of the iFrame is changed. For example, for each page (such as category_achieving_goals.html), remove all of the main page objects, and just leave the square object in the centre of the page. On the index page, place an iFrame where the original square was. On the Embed File or Media dialogue box, change the “Name” to something simple, such as myFrame. Click on Page List, then select the first page that you want displayed when the site is first visited (the central object of category_working_the_secret.html). Now change the links on the index page in the Link Editor. Leave the link type as page, and also leave the page as the same. In the Code section, enter target=”myFrame” Adjust each link the same. Now only the iFrame’s content is changed. |
