Hey folks,
I am working on a site that I am going bald over at this stage... Smallest issue currently is that I have added a "legal disclaimer" that opens a popup window. Works great in FF (mmm... Firefox... my love) but IE7 nada. You can try it for yourself here: BigStockPlay On another note and because it relates to this site... any recommendations for editing tools for front end users? I realize that CMS solutions are another breed of cat but.. yeah. I am messing with MODx but being a less than enthusiastic, straight coder I am finding it frustrating. Shanks all you wonderful peeps! "Are we there yet?" |

Your pop-up code has an error. The second parameter to the window.open() function should be a window name, not a window title. The window name is used so other script code can refer to this window. I'm pretty sure the space character is causing the problem; changing it to an underscore should work.

Whatever happened to the English language? LOL! ;-)
As far as your 'link is concerned, I have no idea at all about Javascript as I'm useless at such things ... (others may be able to help - such as the superb Larryd) ... but I can't understand why you don't just have an extra page (in a new window) which pops up when the link is clicked. SS would handle that very nicely with no need for JS. Is it worth a shot? Please don't worry about becoming bald ... it's a natural trait for young testosterone-charged individuals! :-) ... and thinning old devils like me, ha ha! Can I suggest that you review your site though? There is an apostrophe missing on the home page and some of the language used is (I think) a tad commercial/industrial rather than conventional - though it may perhaps be OK for the USA market? What does 'do your own due diligence' mean to punters? In reality, it's not even English .... is it? Although my main interest has been English Law, I have spent over 30 years within the UK-regulated investment markets and have recently worked with French students on investments and investment products available in the UK and EU. Some of these were very specific products, mainly collective investments in specific sectors. (As a sad old muppet, I once studied French Insurance Law (in French) ... though my books are now consigned to a box in the loft, LOL ... I have a little knowledge on such matters). If you are going to run a website on such technical matters, it must, IMHO, be 100% accurate/correct. It also has to be acceptable to the main learning-styles of the individuals visiting the site - to gain the maximum return. I have no idea how good you might be with investment advice ... but the impression created so far to people like me is that your site may have been set up simply to attract traffic for some reason .... you even state that you cannot provide advice. Are you not 'investment-adviser' qualified? (Please note: there is no such word in the English language as 'advisor' .... it is 'adviser' ... and advisers work in an advisory capacity!) Sorry .. this has strayed away from SS .... but such matters really do concern me. mccifa ..... oh ... and guess what the 'ifa' in my name stands for, LOL! |

LOL.. mccifa,
As far as the content goes.. it isn't mine.. it is the clients. Feel free to use the contact link to give him the pointers.. A)He would be hugely enthused to know someone one "international" has already looked over his site and B)HE NEEDS IT. He is only 23 or so but still. As for the javascript... it is a Brucee SS special. And fixed, so feel to look it over. And last of all, balding... If I go bald... my boobs will get too much sun! And since I lack testosterone, that would be a sad thing. "Are we there yet?" |

Oh dear, Wytchcat .... so I got it wrong again, LOL! Just shows what a couple of glasses of plonk can do (having been told by the doc not to touch alcohol!)!!
Mind you, you did say that it was making you go bald ... so my guess was that you weren't of the boob variety, ha ha! Mind you, a good friend is as bald as could be and wears it with pride .. and she's lovely! My old (previous) secretary wore wigs from her 40's cos she lost her hair, poor thing due to dreadful family stress. But we all supported her and she remains a good friend in her late 70s and e-mails me regularly. As for the content of that site, well my comments still stand ... cos I love to see brilliant websites! :-) I'm sure I haven't spotted all the typos in my sites yet ... I came across one today where it said 'kep' instead of 'key' ... yet the dictionary I used had accepted kep. Pourquoi? Bruce's, Klimt's and in paticular, Larry's javascript have also helped me no end ... so I'm glad that Bruce hit the nail on the head for you. Good luck with everything! mccifa |
