Linking web pages in WebDwarf is the same as linking to other sites and the same as most web page editors. That is, you just enter the page name in the link field. Make sure both pages (html files) are in the same folder when viewing them.
Here is a example: - Open WebDwarf, add anything you like to the page, preview the page (press the >> button) to create an html file. By default the page (the html file) will be called 'index.html' - Select File>New Project to create a new project/page. - In the toolbar where you see the default page name 'index', change the name from 'index' to 'page1' (so you don't replace your existing index page) - Add an object, say a rectangle, and right click on it to open the link editor. - In the right-hand field (where it says "www.") enter the name of the page you want to link to. In this case index.html . Leave the left-hand url type field blank. - Preview the page. Now, if you click on the rectangle it will take you to your index page. That's it. If you publish the pages make sure you publish both to the same place. If your pages are in different locations, you will have to adjust the path in the link accordingly. |

I am having this exact same problem. (Using WebDwarf) Even following the instructions above, I still get either a refresh of the same page, or a "page cannot be displayed" error. I'm trying a simple link back and forth between an index page and a product review page. Pages are saved individually as index.ims and product_review.ims. I've tried leaving the link type blank, or choosing "page". I've tried linking to index, index.html and index.ims to no success. There must be a better way??
Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Thank you - Carrie |

Your link from the index page to the product review page should be like this:
Link type: -blank- Link URL : productreview.html Your link from the product review page to the index page should be like this: Link type: -blank- Link URL : index.html Name your product review page 'productreview' -- take the underscore out. You may get away with it as it is -- but it is tempting fate. When you preview, hover your mouse over the link. Your browser status bar will show the full path to the page you are linking to. The last part must show something like 'productreview.html'. And the files index.html and productpreview.html must both exist in your preview folder, and eventually, in your publish folder. |

Whenever I start a new page, it ALWAYS saves it as index.html instead of the newpage.html (etc.) regardless of the .ims filename and regardless of what I've named it in the Page Editor.
In other words, everytime I publish a project, it overwrites my index file. Any thoughts? |

For WebDwarf, the place to change the page name is in the edit box at the top middle of your workpage -- currently it will say "index"
The name you give your project .ims file is just a name that makes sense to you -- it doesn't have any bearing on your finished project. The name you enter in the Page Editor is the title you want to appear on the title bar of your visitor's browser. It is completely independent of the page name. |

In order to change the automatic index title, I had to type in what I wanted to rename my file into the drop down menu located at the top middle of my webdwarf workspace. This is a completely different task from the "save as" function. Once you change that, at the top left corner of your workspace, it should say: "whatever you saved your file as" - "whatever you typed into the drop down menu" - Virtual Mechanics Webdwarf
I hope that makes sense. Once this task is accomplished, you should be able to link back and forth by using the directions stated in previous posts. |
