In a nearby thread I argued that WebEngine would benefit from a menu (within Publish | Preview HTML or SVG ) to allow switching between several browsers. IE, Opera, Netscape, Amaya.

The published content can then be previewed/tested in different browsers. Several HTML editors have this feature.

....

o.k. .. here is a real example of what I would like to see in WebEngine ..
(and the free HTML-Kit Editor below can coexist with WebEngine).

(1) read about HTML-Kit .. here

(2) download and install HTML-Kit

(3) go to HTML-Kit Plugins

(4) for SVG tools .. view the Plugins

(5) download the mmSVG plugin

read "how to install" mmSVG plugin in right hand menu of above page

quote:
Download the 'mmSVG' plugin. If it's in a *.zip file, usually you do not have to unzip it.
Select "Install | Install Plugin" from the "Tools" menu. Point to the downloaded file and click "OK."
HTML-Kit will unzip the file if necessary and install the plugin.

Now launch HTML-Kit, and create a new blank test page. Write some test text in the page.

Go to the top toolbar in HTML-Kit .. see the icon fourth from right? .. click on the drop down arrow

voila .. all the available browsers installed on your PC are there to be used in Preview mode.

Now back to the editor .. see the little (Plugin) tab called mmSVG ??

and underneath a row of sub-tags ??

now .. click on any of the arrows in the sub-tags .. and you have a complete directory of SVG syntax.

...

Now you can Preview any files published (locally) by WebEngine ..

just go to HTML-Kit toolbar .. File | Open .. and navigate to preview the local HTML or SVG file published by WebEngine.

Perhaps this final link might be automated later.

D_L,

I already have HTML-Kit in my repertoire; and have the svg plugins. Will investigate further.

Thanks,

Muzz

Hi D_L,

Yes, the ability to select which browser to Preview in is high on our list.

Thanks for the HTML-Kit info, we'll look into it.

OK D_L, Thanks,

I haven't gotten the Opera option to work, but I did a variation on the theme.

I copied the .svg code from Web Engine to a text file (I don't have access to the Clipboard because of my XP option), and then simply opened the file in HTML-Kit and used the Preview mode.

And bingo, up popped the images.

When I used Tools>External Browser and gave the path to Opera, I just received a blank page. I'm not sure what exactly the issue is there but I do want to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks, also, VM for making the svg code portable. I've been messing around with "Kit" ever since I got into this business. They are a survivor -- the 292 build goes way back. Sort of like aspirn with codine: cured my headache.

Cheers D_L, novel work.

Hi Derry,

Did you not tell me once that you had the capability of previewing "svg images" in Opera?

I am going to approach Opera about the problem but would like to know if it just something I am doing wrong, or whether it is a bug in Opera.

Cheers,

Muzz
