I hope it's okay to post this question here... but:

When I create any roll over effect in Web Spinner the sensitive area doesn't move with the page when I scroll - so the image rolls upwards but the roll-over area stays where it is. Is this a problem with the program, with my browser or with me? Can it be fixed?

Hi Ali,

I am afraid that is a limitation in Web Spinner (V1). The follow on product, SiteSpinner V2, does not have that limitation.

cheers,
Harpo

Hi - I have the same problem - but I use V2.70 f. The error occurs in IE 7.

What can I do?!

Post a link to the page with the error and indicate where on the page you are having problems. Someone can look and perhaps figure out what went wrong.

Try your mouseover effect on a fresh page. If it works there but not on your "real" page, suspect a problem with some of the other code.

Also, try Edit > Clean Components -- that may resolve the issue, whatever it is.

Here is a bare bones test page with the mouse-over HTML;

http://otkrit.hostei.com/TEST_PAGES/mouseover.html

4 images. Only 2 (the 2 leftermost ones) have a mouse-over link to some text.
As you see, it works fine initially, but if you scroll down or right (I extended the page to ensure this), it seems as if the position of the trigger image does not move with respect to the viewing screen, as it were. As if the location of the trigger area was indexed to the immediate viewing area. The text box scrolls without problems.

In other words, mousing now over the area directly underneath the images (for down-scrolling) - in what is otherwise blank space - triggers the text appearance. This is a shame, because despite the inefficient coding from SPINNER, the layout took 1 minute to make, and otherwise works extremely well.

If no-one can identify the problem, perhaps they could suggest a WYSIWYG HTML editor which can produce a similiar effect (assuming they will not have this problem), as I need to finish this project in a hurry.

Alternatively, if someone can supply a transparent script where the size and absolute location of each individual image and text box can be independently controlled - along with the text justification, color, font and size, within the HTML area, that would be good.

cheers for your help.

There is mo mouse over effect for me at all.

If you are going to use the same design technique with any other WYSIWYG program, you are bound to have the same problems. Many users (including myself) have used SS’s mouseover effects with no problems.

Your main “mouseover” page was created with SS V 6.0, and you have included some data created with CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer.

Inside the body of that page, you have another “index” page created with SS V2 270f, all complete with yet another “head” section.

In the first page, you have a table (as far as I can see, with nothing in it), and you have a large image (IMG_76) set behind the new SS page (index).

The link on Oobj7 (image hatch.jpg) is set to “index.html”, and is pointed to the preview folder on your local computer, which is obviously incorrect.

You have two lines of text in a text object (Oobj9, which is the object included in your mouseover) separated by 10 line breaks. This would create a large blank area on the page that would also be included in the mouseover. It would be better to split these two lines into two separate text objects.

Until you fix some of the design problems, you are sure to continue to have problems.

I expect Postyr is using IE8, as for me with that browser there is also no mouseover.

However in Firefox the mouseovers do work, and I can see no shift in the trigger position as I scroll the page horizontally or vertically. The trigger hotspots remain over images 1 and 3 regardless of scrolling.

Browser are sensitive to errors in the code and respond in different ways. I agree with Postyr -- the first step is to clean up the code. In particular, you should have only one head and one body section, and let SiteSpinner set the DOCTYPE.

Mouseovers of the type you are using normally work without problems, so there is still some hope Smile

Yes, Bruce is correct. My initial test was with IE8.

I have since tested it with FireFox, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari, and it works fine in all (except IE), and with no problems in scrolling.

Strange that your page works in all but IE. I have mouseover affects of my own which work in all browsers, including IE.

I suspect that IE is having problems with your page code in general, as mentioned in the last two posts.
