When I update and publish a page, Site Spinner creates a new version of the background objects. I have to upload the new objects and delete the old ones. Is there a way to avoid this?

Are you using SiteSpinner to upload your pages? Or are you using an FTP program?

If you give the background object the same name as the previous background object had, it should then substitute the old one with the new one.

I'm using Filezilla ftp. I don't assign new names to the objects, just update the text, save, and publish the page.

If you have removed, then re-added the pictures at all with Sitespinner, the picture object will be new and need to be uploaded once again. Any time you change an object, it will be different to the program. Filezilla will upload all text immediately, the objects need to be separately loaded.

This is a situation in which I'm changing only the text. The images are unchanged and upload without a problem. The trouble is that the background objects (such as boxes against which the text appears) are renamed by Site Spinner even though I've made no change to them. Uploading them individually takes care of it, but I just wondered if there was a way to avoid that extra work.

When you upload, are you uploading "index.html"? What is your website address? This way I can look at it.

I only upload "index.html" is I'm updating the home page. Usually, I just update individual pages. The site is www.savethecanal.org.

Have you tried 'locking' your background object? You can do this by right clicking on the object with your mouse. At the top of the box is "LOCK". This will lock the item down, you won't be able to move it until you unlock it. Try doing this, then re-upload your site. I'm assuming after this, the object(s) should stay. Let me know if it works.

If your problem is with a box like obj126, the box behind your main text on the index page, that shouldn't normally change.

Currently the box is an image named obj126geo251shd21pg21p11.png. Those numbers mean something: object obj126, geometry geo251, shade shd21, page number 21 and project number 11. If you change any of those parts, even accidentally, SS will create an image with the new numbers.

Next time it happens, take a note of the before and after image names -- that should tell you what has actually changed.
