I am thinking about getting a 16GB SSD mini to be used for my website only.
What is the size of SiteSpinner's system (not including pages I make, just the system, itself). I guess I'm asking how big a hard drive is recommended to install Sitespinner. My website is a small one. |

I don't know if this is the correct answer to your question but if I look at what space is needed for SSPro on my own PC it's 15.6MB. Having 16MB total space then might be a little bit tight IMHO. SS basic uses 11.8MB, so maybe that's a better option. I suppose that somebody more knowledgable then me might give you a better answer.

Oops, Roma is confusing MB with GB. Your planned 16GB will be plenty, but if it really was 16MB, I agree, you would be struggling.

Stonebrash is talking gigabyte Roma, not megabyte. However, if stonebrash is thinking of installing SS on a portable drive, he might have some problems. When installed, SS installs dlls in the system directory and updates the system registry, which you won't be able to do on your "portable" device and thus, it won't work. This idea has been tossed around before and as far as I know (and I don't know that far), it hasn't been accomplished. Putting your website (the files generated by SiteSpinner) on a portable drive is definitely doable. However, you will need to have SS installed on any machine you want to use.

Dont forget that the actual work that
you will generate with SS is many times more then the size of SS itself Pics,Scripts,Html...etc still 16Gb should do. To be 100% portable you need to have all that contents also on that portable device. It's possible to run a complete application from a simple a USB-stick ..and that even includes your computers Operating System (Windows,Vista...etc) or a browser. The idea is that you can bring your usb-stick to any other PC ..stick it in and run your application...when done, you remove it and no trace is left on the guest-computer...since all files, dll's ...etc are installed on the USB stick. Instead of a USB-stick you could use any other portable storage to do this. I dont remember anymore how this is called...but i posted about it at least 1 year ago in this forum...at that time you needed a special type of USB-stick...probably by now they all have this feature ("bla bla compatible" or something like that) You could start with Googling for "run XP from usb-stick" and then continue to look for running other applications. I'm running my 3 sites on a local computer server (3,661 folders and 18,607 files) consuming less than 3GB.

Thanks guys for pointing out the mistake. I don't think I confused GB and MB, just misread the post, probably due to the late hour. I'll try to read more carefully in the future.
