Hello again everybody (this is starting to feel like a family to me)...here's my question. I have several pages with pedigrees. In those pedigrees there are horse names which I call 'reference sires'. I want to put a link from those reference sire names (just text) to one specific place on a new page where people can find out more about this horse. I want them to arrive exactly at that horse...without having to browse though the whole page and read through the others. Can it be done ?
thanks again for your great advice. By the way : my navigation bars are still moving around (very funny) and yes, I have a 1024 resolution screen and make 800 x 600 resolution websites. If this helps ??? |

Hi brigit ,
Yes, you can do that. There was a discussion about it here: http://virtualmechanics.infopop.cc/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=3636038591&f=1246038591&m=1756071333&r=5116030433#5116030433 - Derry |

hello derry,
I have tried the procedure as explained in the link. My text is in a table, but that should not make a difference, I guess. I have highlighted name of horse, put in #mylink, went to the place where I want my guests to arrive, put in 'mylink' in the 'assign a bookmark' spot..but nothing happens. Is it because there are two different pages ? The name I link to is underlined - so it's a link...but when I look with 'preview project' nothing happens. When I go over the link I see (underneath browser) : file:///c:/program files/virtual mechanics/sitespinner V2/preview/pedokiereydoc.html#mylink. "Pedokiereydoc" is the name of the first page from where the link starts. Any suggestions ? Thanks very much, Bri |

Hi brigit,
If the spot you are linking to is on another page, then you need to put the page url into your link also. So, in the link editor, select 'http' and then put in the name of the page and the bookmark, like this: pedokiereydoc.html#mylink When you Preview, be sure to Preview the whole project (double arrow). Let me know how you make out. - Derry |

It's still not working out. Maybe you need a more detailed description. Yes, I need to link between two pages. The link needs to go from a name (in a table) from page one (lets call it pedigree.html) to one well defined spot on page two (this is referencehorses.html).
According to your last message I have tried the following so far : In link editor on 'pedigree page' : link type : http://www.referencehorses.html#mylink. In link editor on 'referencehorses' : open text editor, stand on on point without selecting text, open link editor, leave link type blank, put in 'assign bookmark name : mylink. Save project, preview html project. Result is, when trying out the link on the horses name in pedigree.html : in browser I get http://www.referencehorses.html/message : (page cannot be displayed). Then I have also tried linking not by http, but by 'page' or putting the full address again in the bookmark...but apparently I have not found the right angle of approach here. I'm really looking forward to your answer...it's the only detail that keeps me from publishing my absolutely perfect, refined and LAST version of www.dangiumreiners.com. (sure...it's always the 'last version'...they always last about 4 weeks. Thanks again. I keep trying untill I hear from you. |

...or does this only work when the project is published on the server (since it's linking by http...and not 'page') ?

Hi brigit,
You need to link to your 'page'. The example you gave ( http://www.referencehorses.html#mylink) is a combination of your URL and a page. Your URL (www.referencehorses) should end with a .com (.html is for a web page). In the Text Editor, highlight the word you want to link from, open the Link Editor, select http and type in your page name and add the bookmark link after it, it look something like this: mypage.html#mybookmark Now add the mybookmark to the spot on the page you want to link to. Assuming that mypage.html is one of your Project pages, then when you Preview your Project (double arrows) the link should work. - Derry |

I'm starting to feel real stupid - and with reason, I guess. I think I understand what you mean by my first try being a combination of URL and a page and why it did not work. So, here I have tried putting in the 'link type' field : the name of my website (www.dangiumreiners.com) and then in the assign a bookmark field the name of the page I want to go to + #mylink - looking like this : referencehorses.html/#mylink. I have tried every other combination (like putting everything in the link type field etc...but nothing works under 'preview project'.
I'm missing out on something here ??? Knowing that : -the name of the website is www.dangiumreiners.com -all concerned pages are in the same project -the page I want to link FROM is called pedigree.html -the page I want to link TO (on any given spot) is called referencehorse.html... could you please indicate exactly what to put in the 'link type' field and the 'assign a bookmark' field (on both pages). Thanks again, I hope that this time it will work. Bri |

Hi Brigit,
It should look like this: Remember to Preview the whole Project (double arrows). - Derry |
