Every time I make a text word and link it I get this from W3C:
Line 101, Column 65: document type does not allow element "DIV" here; missing one of "APPLET", "OBJECT", "MAP", "IFRAME", "BUTTON" start-tag

…x.html" title="home"><div class="dfltt calign txt5" ><span class ="unln">HOME</span><br>

The mentioned element is not allowed to appear in the context in which you've placed it; the other mentioned elements are the only ones that are both allowed there and can contain the element mentioned. This might mean that you need a containing element, or possibly that you've forgotten to close a previous element.

One possible cause for this message is that you have attempted to put a block-level element (such as "<p>" or "<table>") inside an inline element (such as "<a>", "<span>", or "<font>").

Can you post a link to the page? You didn't give enough of the HTML to make it meaningful. Looking at the actual HTML would help.

I'm probable doing a lot of stuff wrong.
My W3C validation comes back a mess.
Some I figure is due to code from my affiliate banner and stuff like that.
I find this website building to be complex.
Sitespinner is a little hard for me to figure out but it does so much more than other programs I tried.
I did have a clean validation with the old version of SS.
I dont know why its so bad since I upgraded.

No, you're not doing anything wrong. SS has placed a <div> tag inside a link tag <a>, which is a W3C validation no-no. It does not hurt anything, and the link will work as intended. If I'm guessing correctly, it looks like you have underlined your text "Home", then added a link. A link will automatically underline a link, so doing it yourself is what added the <div> tag inside the link and caused the W3C validation error. Removing the underline from the text should fix it.

Thank you for the help!!!
I have my project set to not underline links because the underlines wont show up in my IE browser. I want people to be able to tell with items are linked and which are not as I am in building mode. Wink
The colors for the link text wouldnt work after I upgraded either so I just went with pre-colored, unchanging, text and a manual underline.

After I upgraded the only thing that would color change in links was the underline, not thewords, so in IE you couldnt tell by looking what was linked since the underline didnt show.

I hope I explained that ok.
I dont know why IE wouldnt show the auto made underline.

Do all links in your IE not show as underlined, or just on your site?

If all links, check your IE Tools->Options->Advanced tab Browsing section to see how the Underline Links option is set.

If just your pages, open the Page Editor to the Links, Fonts tab and see if the "Do not Underline Links" option is checked. Or, if you have set the link color via the text editor Link Editor, make sure you did not set the "Do not Underline Link" option there.

I have the option set to always for IE underline links.
It does the same thing on my daughters pc, which is old xp with an older IE.

I'm not to worried about it, just one of those I get preoccupied with. LOL

I think what I should do is start over.
I am trying to go to fast.

I havent used SS in quite awhile and when I decided to build a new site I upgraded and just tossed it all together.

I lack in patients. Time to use that tutorial!!

My site is sloppy and can be much better arranged.

Thats one of the pleasures of SS, learning and being able to try different things without the nightmare of manual writing code on a blank page.

Thanks again for trying.
I think I just need to learn more and slow down.

Yup!!
I had to just slow down and start at the beginning and go over each item. Sure enough, one page was messed up, double links and stuff, and throwing all the pages off!!
Now that I found the prob I am fixing it, piece by piece, and the links are working totally!!!

LOL
Inpatients is not a good thing.
When I am done fixing the prob then I will upload. I have a lot of fixing to do.
