How can I place a link within the mobile pages that when tapped or selected dials the phone number? I know it can be done because I've seen it on other sites.

You use a tel:// link type. SiteSpinner does not have this in its link type drop-down menu, so you have to add it manually; e.g.,
tel://5554443333
You can add phone extension and other parameters, as described in the RFC.

This will set whatever device they're on to dial the number right? I have sitespinner pro and it has a telnet// link in the drop down. Is that it?

No, they are two different things.

Telnet An acronym for TELecommunications NETwork program. It was a program originally developed to allow users to log-in to other computers on a network. The interface to Telnet is very simple. All it usually consists of is a window which allows sequences of characters including an account name and a password to be typed in, in order to gain access to a remote computer.

The tel:// link opens the iPhone's calling application and calls the number used as the link's target. This allows Web developers to add "call us" links in their web page that, when tapped, actually place a call.

Brilliant! Thanks Larry & Terry...a client is about to give me an iPhone as he wants his website accessible to phone users and requires me to test it on an iPhone.

So, at last I will be able to throw this heavy old battery pack (which is strapped to my waist belt) away, and the curly cord to the 'phone' will no longer get tied in knots!!
