Hi folks
I've been pretty tied up recently and now have masses of things to catch up with on SS. My latest 'problem' is a 10 week old puppy .... not a *website* issue, LOL! However, I was just wondering whether VM could add a 'friendly chat' board where old fools like me could post pics of their puppy, and more sensible SS users could share parts of their lives etc if they wanted to? Personally, I'd just love to know more about some of the incredibly helpful 'regs' on here! Postyr gave me a few clues about his life by 'taking' me to his website. Brilliant! Suddenly he wasn't just a 'name'! OK, personal and private info should obviously be kept secure, but perhaps a non-SS-related board where we can 'chat' might be 'useful'? What do you guys think? Am I just(after my new pup!) *barking* up the wrong tree, LOL? mccifa |

Puppies are very cute, but all too soon they become big horrible dogs. Why don't you join a puppy forum?
We have discussed a chat room before, and the consensus then was that we should "stick to the knitting". I am a member of another forum, (Piano World) which at one time had a "coffee room". That was eventually closed after repeated descents into politics, religion and general slanging matches. Very entertaining for the onlookers, but I suspect not such fun for the participants or forum owner. |

Oh thanks, Bruce(!)
I don't want to join a *puppy forum* though thank you for the suggestion (that really wasn't the point)....just attempting to open things up a little and get to know a bit about the regulars on here, in particular. But as you want to 'stick to the knitting' that's fine by me. Though *knitting* is not a good word in my experience as I used to run a good old-fashioned *gentlemen's* club and at some stage, at weekends we allowed ladies in. But after a few weeks we had to ban the clicking of knitting needles, LOL and any *garden chatter* as it was upsetting the snooker players! I'm also a moderator and the 'admin'on other boards. Fortunately the members have manners and brains and use them to good effect....so up to now I've not had to intervene. From what I've seen so far on SS most enquirers seem to be of petty high intelligence, but there we go. I never allowed 'any other business' on an agenda for meetings with my staff....as I had previously found that only *negatives* were pronounced and all the *good* of the scheduled items could be blown out. But perhaps that's a bit different to a board for things other than SS which would probably only be visited by the few regs on here as most visitors are probably just looking for help. Anyway, I shall just keep quiet in future and hope that SS/VM will at some stage go through the boards and carry out some sensible house-keeping.....so that new visitors don't find so much out-of-date material. In the meantime, I shall continue to ask my silly questions on here, in the hope that I shall continue to get the fantastic help I've had from so many of you! My birthday w/e.....so I will raise a glass to all you SS regulars! Cheers!! mccifa |

Happy Birthday Dave from a dog lover!!! Cheers!!!
Used to have two westies that lived to a very respectable age of 13 years. I might be ready for a puppy soon as well. |

Oooooh, Roma! Go for it! A new puppy is so much fun (and hard work, LOL!). Westies are lovely (IMHO) and you could easily benefit from the company of 1 or 2, so why not go for it!
I just love training dogs/birds/animals....though hate to see untrained dogs towing their owners along, LOL! An old friend is an animal trainer for films....so has worked with many big cats etc. He's also a stand-in for some films, though all you see is his back, LOL ... and an animal *trying* to devour him! We have a garden full of blackbirds and robins (& many other birds including woodpeckers, pheasants, partridges and many finches etc) as I feed them on a variety of food .....and they are often waiting at the door each morning. The pheasants run the full length of the garden when called! Many of our birds come right up to me...as do the hedgehogs that visit each night. They nudge my feet and expect me to tickle their noses now! We had around 30 blackbirds during fledging and the young ones followed me into the house/garage! They also flew in and landed right next to me on my garden table whilst taking my morning coffee, some trying to land on my head/shoulder. But my 'flinching' put them off! We also had a huge grass snake come through the garden from the farm next door and it went through the passageway between the house and garage. I've never seen such a large grass snake before.....and took some photos and video. I've just bought a little lemon Cocker Spaniel (for my b'day) and he's absolutely beautiful and wonderful in the intelligence stakes, LOL! He will be trained as a working dog but will not be kept outside as he's also rather a pet. I really hope you get a pup, Roma .... they are so much fun .... and a diversion from the www/laptop LOL! If you could see *Jake* now you'd laugh your head off....he's so funny in so many ways! Hope you take the plunge, Roma!! mccifa This message has been edited. Last edited by: mccifa, |

Congrats on your new puppy, mccifa
I like your idea of a general discussion topic, but I somehow don't think that VM wants to go down that road. Incidentally, Roma was good enough to dress my namesake, Bailey, for Xmas ,last year. I suppose there is nothing to stop you setting up your own forum: 'Friends of VM' for example. I would join Rob PS Happy belated birthday wishes This message has been edited. Have all of you forgotten that Larry has already been kind enough to host a Live Chat section for VM members on his site?
Go to Larry’s home page, and on the right hand pane, there is a button “Live Chat”. |

Live Chat is down at the moment. Some problem with the latest upgrade of MySQL. There was never much traffic on it, so I was thinking of dropping it completely.
There is a free, open-source program called elgg which is designed to allow you to set up your own social network. This software is also available for my GoDaddy account. I would be willing to set it up if there is enough interest. So, if you are interested, send me an e-mail (address is in my public profile or via my website). |

That's the first I've heard of Larry's *chat* site (asleep again!) though I'm not fast enough on the keyboard to *chat* as such and find that I just get left behind!
Is it chat or a message board? Will have a look tomorrow, as sinking fast at the moment, due to my lovely new Cocker taking up excessive time, LOL! He had his first walk outside today and was immediately accosted by my neighbours and then by people visiting a nearby house when they saw him from the opposite side of the road. Regretably, he managed to climb on their laps and pee on them in his excitement, ROFLMHO!!! He is to be trained as a gun dog (that's his pedigree) though as his nose is so incredibly sensitive he would probably have made an excellent Customs dog for sniffing out drugs etc. I have tested him in my garden, which is pretty big, and I cannot believe how he follows a *trail* at such a young age and reacts in the way that he does when he finds what he wants. Whoops! Back on topic.....otherwise I might be struck off!! If Larry's chat page is not a message board, I'll be more than happy to run a free board via myfineforum. I already run one for my daughter, and mod another. So I'm quite happy to take the suggestion on board and run an SS Friends forum! mccifa |

Hi Rob So pleased to see your website. I used to tinkle the ivories a bit some years ago, as well as playing the trumpet and a few other things. My sister is a qualified piano teacher and can pick up and play any instrument within minutes....she has a fantastic ear! My brother is brilliant on piano but has played accordian for many years now and gets pub visitors singing along .... though in the UK the laws now mean that it's almost impossible to play in public! Such a shame, but that's autocratic governments for you .... though perhaps for 'autocratic' you could substitute a few other words! I just loved your music, Rob and have downloaded all of your tracks. I will listen to them in more detail in due course...I just wonder what you have done to make your talent create a more pecuniary advantage for you? Or is that of little interest? mccifa This message has been edited. Last edited by: mccifa, |

Many thanks, mccifa, for your generous comments
The music tracks, are mainly a hobby, as is learning about the whole recording process, which I find challenging. Although, when I lived in Wales, I played in several bands/duos, etc. It is sad to hear that live music back in Blighty, is in such a sorry state I provide guitar and piano lessons, in RL, but lately, lessons via Skype, are beginning to show promise. I like your idea of a general chat forum, though. I believe that several members here, (myself included)communicate outside of this forum, from time to time, on Skype, Facebook, etc., and it is great to learn a little about the lives of members here, outside of their VM personas Rob |
