I USING SITE SPINNER PRO, AND I WANT A FORM ON THERE FOR EMAIL TO BE SENT TO MY ADDRESS.
I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THE FORM ON THE SITE SPINNER PRO, SO I GOT THE FORM "CODE" OF VODAHOST AND PUT ON MY PAGE, BUT THEN I GO AND PREVIEW IT, IT WILL NOT ALLOOW ME TO FELL OUT THE DETAIL BOXS. I AM ALL NEW TO THIS SO CAN SOMEBODU HELP PLEASE

Please be a little patient. This is not a monitored board with someone watching it 24/7. People help others here when they get a chance to visit the forum. Posting multiple times in various topic areas is not going to get anyone to help you any faster. I can understand your panic, but that is no reason for improper behavior.

It would help us if you posted a link to the page with your form. Looking at the page will help someone figure out what is wrong. If you have not published the page yet, use the SiteSpinner publishing option to publish a temporary test page to iHostVM. Post the link they give you for your page.

One thing you'll find after you've been here a while is that there are always folks that are willing to tackle any problems you may have with either SiteSpinner (in the WebDwarf, SiteSpinner, SiteSpinner Pro 'How do I...' board) or just about any other thing related to web site design and development (in the Web General Discussion board). However, as Larry says, you need to have just a bit of patience. If you don't get a reply right away, check back every so often and sooner or later, generally sooner, you'll have a reply. So don't get upset if you don't get an instant response and please don't yell.

There is one thing that you gure's have forgotton over time, and that is the new person that looks at all of the things that are on your page, please explain to me how any new person to the internet in explose to understand where to "POST" anything. You guy's know this site in side out. I can tell you this, then a new person comes to your site "as me" we are lost straight away. there is no plan english to fellow. Yes you guys understand all that is going on with the pages, but then a new person come on , i can say that it takes about an 1hr to work anything out. The reason why i posted so many time, Gods know if you got it. there is no yes your massage is posted or even if i am in the right place. Please understand that the help you get here comes mostly from other users. Virtual Mechanics people get rarely involved; normally only when bugs have been found with the programs.

Also please understand that we have no idea what your background is, nor how much web knowledge you have. Yes, responses are geared toward someone we assume has had some web experience and has read the tutorials. Not doing so, we run the risk of insulting your intelligence. So we are in a damned if we do and damned if we don't position.

Back to your original problem. We have no idea what it is. In order to see the problem, we need to see the page you are having trouble with. The best way to do this is to publish your page to your site. You can find instructions on publishing in the Help Topics, Publishing Projects section. Once you have published your page, you will need to give us the URL address so we can browse to your site and see it.

Without seeing the published page, we can only guess what the problem may be. You say you got the form code from another source. How did you put this code into your project? You should have used a code object since you trying to insert code, so maybe you used a text object by mistake - this would cause it to fail. Or maybe the code you pasted was incomplete somehow. Form code requires a particular structure to work correctly, so if some piece of the code is missing, it will not work.

Wey hey, John! Please...just calm down and take it easy. Just like you, I found it a bit tricky understanding many of the replies I got on this board.

When responses came to my questions, I then had to work out what the heck they actually meant, LOL!! Where on earth did I find certain things in SS that they mentioned? 'Do this, do that' ....yes, but HOW?!! Give me basics!!

The thing is that the responders to your problems have no idea how knowledgable you are. So, tell them in advance! I'm a dunce at many things....and just get put off when people get too technical and use 'computer jargon'.

My brother was in the Air Force (Air Sea Rescue) and I didn't have a flipping clue what he was talking about when I met him when he was on leave...all 'jargon' to me, but to him it was his natural, aquired language.

It's the same on many websites.....I'm lost cos they straight-away talk in 'techno-language'. Sorry, I know some Latin, pretty good at French and a bit of Spanish....but PC-langue? Non!!

But, if you bear with them, and ask for everything to be explained in more basic terms, you will probably get the answers you want. There are many incredibly helpful people on this board.

But please bear in mind....the responders don't have a clue when you post your message as to how PC-savvy you are. So, just take it easy and all will become clearer.

As Larry said, the usual way of adding third-party Form code is as a Code Object. There is a tutorial under Help > Tutorials that goes into all the details. Also another on Form Mail that might help.

If don't want to publish a sample page at this stage, it would help if you post a link to the Vodahost code you are using -- we can translate that into "official SiteSpinner".

I'm not completely sure about this but this line of your code:

action="<? echo($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']);?>"

seems like it is relying on a PHP script already located on your VodaHost server. This script may be missing from your IHost trial site, so I wouldn't expect that part to work.

Also it seems to me your index page should have the name "index.php" -- this would allow the PHP pre-processor to fill out the actual action address (URL) of the script file that will look after the email functions.

So with that change, and running your form page on your VodaHost server, there is a better prospect of it working.

I'm no expert on PHP, but Larry is -- and may have some other (better!) ideas.

Copy and paste it into a plain text editor. Change the me@myemailcom in the code to your actual email address. The line

1: The Email form is from Blue Voda, all that i did was get the code and put into Sitespinner....will this still work.
I have not paid them any money for being my sever yet

i have gone to Page Editor, and in page title it now says....index.php....is this right?

With this "Part of a code" do i put this in. if so how.

2: When it comes to the changes that i want on the web page there are some pictuters that are coving up words. And there are some sentences that i would like to change a bit.

Larry has given you better advice so ignore what I said. If you follow his advice, there will be no need to change your index.html to index.php.

To change the image positions and wording, just re-open your project as you have been doing and make the changes. When you republish the page, the mechanics are the same as your last publish.

I have made 1 page that is sendmail.php that saved not a problem. It is just when i go and save the thanks.html the pc is saying that i can not save this.

So can we start all over again, take the site down put the codes in change thing on the page a little bit and up-load then all in one hit...This will be easer on my Brain "lol" i think,,,,,,but if you have a better way that is easy for me GREAT please let me know.

The sendmail.php part is case-sensitive, so make sure the name of the separate file is exactly the same. Also, I suggest you add it to your form page with the "Embed a File or Media" tool on the left toolbar, and set a Format of Publish File -- top entry of the drop-down format list. This will force SS, when you publish, to upload it to the correct place of your site.

You don't need to put a new form on your page -- just open the Code Editor and make the above small change.

The thanks.html page is just another page in your project. Name it thanks in the drop-down page list.

When using an IHost Trial site, you can publish only once. So if you are changing anything, as you are here, you will need to publish your whole project to a new Trial site.

Your form code looks OK; no problem that I can see without testing it.

The PHP code you have added to your page needs to be put into a separate and external file all by itself. PHP code is server-side code, meaning it must reside on the server to execute. HTML (and form code) and javascript are known as client-side code, meaning it must reside on you visitor's computer (and in the browser) to execute.

Remember to use a plain test editor for the PHP code, such as Notepad. Do not use a word processing program like Word since these types of programs insert special characters into the file to control formating. Also, remember to name the file exactly the same as what you used in the "action" part of your form.

Use Bruce's instruction to upload the PHP file to your site (or the test site). The Publish Type is the way to tell SS how to handle an external file.

You appear to have a problem in your form code right up front for entering Name. Take a look at this:

Make sure your sendmail.php is in the root directory along with the form html page. (You'll have to FTP the sendmail.php file).

You might want to consider adding an Address2 line since many people have a 2nd part to their addresses.

Publish what you have and do some on-line testing and see how it works.
