I like to synchronise 2 different GIF-animations
and i cant do it !

It's neccesary that they are sync (to explain some technical thing)

I have more (other animations) and they are in sync ...but that works because they are the same(they are exact copies)

When i have 2 different ones they do'nt always start at the same time (so tha'ts where the problem starts)

I made them myself with an animation-maker
and i have made them sync there (by adjusting the timings that every pic uses ... the total length is also the same)

Can it be done ?

Tnx

Hi RON,

That is a good question. I don't have a good answer, though I suspect the answer is 'no'. The reason being that the animations start after they have downloaded, and they don't download at the same time. You can try selecting them and them going to Special FX > Loading > Hide while loading. Not sure if that will work though you can give it a try.

I have tried that already ... and i think it does'nt work , (not even for a simple button or anything else )

When something is "hidden while loading" (it does'nt matter what) ... you will see a red X
wich is substituted by what it stands for when completed...so things will still look ugly.

So maybe i'm doing it wrong or it does'nt work ?

Hi Ron,

I don't think you are doing anything wrong, I just don't think it can be done. The problem is that the animation starts once the file has downloaded, but the files download at different times.

Maybe someone else on the forum has an insight into this?

Not knowing what the animated gif files look like or indeed where they are actually placed on the page may make my siggestion irrelevant.

However, if they happen to be next to each other then perhaps they could be recreated as single animation gif but stll look seperate. Therefore they will load and run at exactly the same time.

I thought of that also ....to make them a single animation but i do'nt think that would be a good solution (see below )
please have a look here :

www.tetrascanner.com/home.html

You will see a "radio-scanner" with a lcd-display on top and a signal-strength-meter on the bottom.

I would like the display to light up whenever the signal-meter has at least 1 or more leds
lighting up....this would be how things would
work in reality.
(in other words when something is received the lcd lights up and the led-bar shows the field-strength .. ofcourse this has to happen at the same time because that's how it is in real life)

So the whole scanner-picture is made of:

1 big jpg (the scanner)

1 gif-animation (lcd) on top of the scanner

1 gif-animation (s-meter/led-bar)

If i would combine all these into 1 big animation then loading time would be to long and unacceptable .

Secondly i think the hide while loading option does'nt work ?...because you still see a red X
in the place where the (not yet completed)picture is going to be.
In other words if you hide while loading there should'nt be anything visible...but there's a red X ..so it's not working ? (please answer to this specific question).

Ps) As you see on my page there are also 3 tv-style animations (they are all the same and copies)..now could you explain why these are sync..why do they start synchronised ?
It must be the fact that there is only 1 on the server and my browser is generating 2 extra copies ( but this still may take some time wich could cause off-sync wich they are not)

Tnx again

Ronald

Hi Ron,

You are right, the reason they work in unison is becuase they are simply copies of the same animated gif.

Hi Ron... I reckon the scanner could be made as on single animation gif... I will see if I have time & make it for you.

Thanks Andy.... i am curious to see if that won't increase the page-load-time to an unacceptable level (it's already to long to my taste ,please let me know if you think it is to long at the moment)

Tnx

And what about the X appearing for items that are "non visible while loading " ?????

How is this...if it is ok just right click on it and save to your pc. The total size of this single animation gif is 41k and I will leave it to display here for one week after this posting.

That looks great Andy thanks a lot.. i will now
upload it and see what happens with the loading
time on the page ! i'll let you know tomorrow ..let me know how you made this.

Even before i finished this reply i encounter this stubborn problem that nobody seems to be able to solve :

My browser (Xp-IE v6.0) says this is a receiveranimation.Gif...(properties)....
now when i want to " save picture as ".. the only option is BMP ! i cant save it as GIF !!!!
This really dazzles me and it has happend before ( let's say there is a list of animations (all gif's) then i would be able to
save 20% as gif and the rest would be .bmp

I have spend about 6 hours and i can't solve the problem ...i don't see any settings that could solve this.

i have to make some small corrections like lcd go's off 1 sec delayed after s-meter and it should be 1 line bigger on the upperside only, also there was a slight dim-effect ( it shouldnt go of at once but the intensity decreases)..this i did with having 2 pics with decreasing brigtness at the end.
...but don't worry about that... it's about the principle... i have an animation-maker (artful gif animator) and could do the same again.

Now i cant insert it because i can't save or copy it as .Gif wich is really a terrible big problem... Frown Mad Mad

i also notice now that when trying to save it
it does have no name ....(untitled) maybe that helps to solve the problem ?

If nobody knows what happens here ..where would be the right place to ask ? wich newsgroup for example ?

Why do i have this happening to me ( punishment ? Roll Eyes)

Tnx

It could be down to your ISP. For example, I am with aol and the default for saving images is bmp or in aol's own format called "ART" unless I change the "Internet Properties" (within aol preferences) for "Web Graphics" and select "Never compress graphics" . However that may not apply to your problem.

In any case you can download the animation via www.apeters.co.uk/RecieverAnimation6.gif. Right click and choose "Save target as"
You asked how I made it. Well I just downloaded the the two seperate images. 1, the main image of the receiver which was a .png which I turned into a .gif and 2 the animation of the led. I then used Adobe Image Ready and cut out the display and made two of these.. one lighter and one darker... and put them all together. Smile

At
http://www.apeters.co.uk/RecieverAnimation6a.gif

i have the same problem that it can only be saved as BMP

As i said it's not a problem limited to this gif
but also happens now and then with other gif's

I don't no how to solve it and where to get help for this.

So i guess i have to make the animation myself
again.. i will do it like this:

With the software i have here i will
have to make about 12 pics (using paint)
each pic has the scanner with lcd and s-meter
variations in them
then i put them into my animation-maker (artful gif) and make the animation
Might not be the most efficient way to do it.

Tnx for your help (i feel a little ashamed that i can't put your efforts in to working)

I have sent it to your email address that appears in your Profile. If you import the whole animation into your animation program you should be able to adapt it frame by frame to suit yourself. If you want the display to dim at a certain frame (it runs at 18 frames) then either let me know at which frame you want dimmed and I will do it for you... o,r in your program just change the opacity of that particular layer for that frame.
