How do I get a selection box selection to forward to one of my pages? I do not want a button, just a simple selection from a drop down box should go to the page. I mean I understand how to create it, add the value and everything, I'm just not sure about the rest.

Thanks

I guess you are using a form selection list?

In the tutorials with SiteSpinner V2.70, there is a tutorial on using forms. Check out the middle example -- menus with selection lists.

Yes I have read that tutorial section. The tutorial shown uses a 'Go' button (form) to go to the selected item in the selection box. I am trying to employ a method where I don't need a 'Go' button, I just want to select the item from the list (drop down) and have it automatically go to the page. Can I do this?

Also I have another question to ask. During publishing, items I use to 'appear on all pages' are converted into graphics, which is not a problem, but an image is created for every page the item is on. Is there a way to just have one graphic created and have all pages use the just the one? The images are tending to get a bit excessive.

Thanks for your help I appreciate it

To answer your second question first:
  • Make your object a "clone" or an "include"
  • In the Object Editor > Components tab, uncheck the boxes "Unique Includes" and "Unique Clones"

I am sure the answer to your first question is "yes". But I'm equally sure your next question will be "How?" Wink That will require some research -- or maybe someone who already knows the answer will step in ...

It is possible to avoid the 'Go' button like this:
  • Extract the Code field from the existing 'Go' button
  • Paste it into the Code field for the selection list
  • Where it says onClick, amend that to be onChange

    Hi.

I'm requiring a selection list drop down to direct visitors to external websites, ie: template demonstration sites for my company.

Is it possible to link users to other sites using this form?

    Thanks

Without having done it myself, I think the answer is "Yes" Smile

In the Drop-Down List Values, enter the full URL in the Value field. The tutorial shows just a bookmark and page names there, but I see no reason why a full URL wouldn't work.

Just an update: I have since tried this and it does work.

To test, in the tutorial take the simple menu with the go button and add a URL like http://www.virtualMechanics.com as an additional item at the bottom of the Drop-Down List Values in the right-hand value column.

Then preview, and if you are on-line, clicking your added selection should jump to the VM home page.

Are there ways to specify different links for the various items in a selection list? I can't find a way to have the program allow me to assign a specific URL to an item.

Open the form editor (double click the selection list, or right click > Edit Form Item).

Click on the “Values” button then click “Insert”.

In the Name, enter what you want to be displayed in the list, then tab to the Value field and enter the URL.

Tab again to enter another Name and Value.

Thanks! When I hit preview after that, the list items don't seem to do anything when I click on them. How will I be able to test if the assignments work? Thanks from up here in the northern hemisphere!

I am presuming you are using the sample code from the tutorials.

If this is so, remember to do the following.

Either change your form name to match that in the code, or change the code to reflect the actual name of your form.

Do the same with the Selection List name.

With all the earthquakes y'all are having in that part of the world, "thunder" is probably taking on a different meaning now days.

I was actually referring to the feed of baked beans on toast that I had for breakfast.

    Well said Larry, lol

But I'd be careful if I were you. Bruce is popping on and off line, and being from the "Shaky Isles" may get offended that we are stealing his limelight.
