I am using SSPro and use a number of drop down menus on my website and the work fine. On one of the pages I use a key frame action on an object that works very well also. The problem is on the page with the key frame, the drop down menus actually drop down if the mouse crosses the area on the page where they would normally drop down when clicking their button. Any suggestions?

Hi Bobcob,
I am not sure if the problem is similar to what we've been discussing in this thread. There seems to be an issue with drop-down menu on a page that Action is used as well. I still didn't have time to have a closer look at it, so unfortunately can't offer an immediate solution. Maybe somebody from VM should have a look at it?

Can you post a link to the problem page? And if you have a copy of your project file on your site, what name are you using for that?

I am a volunteer with the St.Vincent De Paul Society and I am working on this website for the society. While working on it I have temporarily uploaded it on my own cable account at http://home.cogeco.ca/~rhartlen. The file name is ‘New SVDP.ims’. The specific page I was having trouble with is the index page. Using a key frame action, the image of St.Vincent moves after a delay of 15 seconds and as I stated the drop down menus drop whenever the mouse crosses their drop places. Actually the menus are side pop outs as opposed to actually drop downs..

I had the same problem with the action editor and its reaction with the drop down menus on the ‘Council’ page (click the About Us button). I ended up having to use an Iframe to get around that problem. But I do not think we should have to do that everytime we use actions with drop down menus.

.

It's late and i have read your questions very quick.

1)
It seems to me that you trigger your behaviour
on mouse over the sub-items (those that show up)
themselves...but should they not trigger only
on mouseover the main (fixed ) buttons ?

2)

You cold also make shure that the subitems
are out of the way/offscreen as long they are not triggered
like this:

HERE

(this is a 1-time action...reload to play again)

so move the startpoint to the other way
so in non-triggered mode they are not on the screen
so they cant trigger themselves.

I cant remember all the details..this is most
certainly the most difficult stuff in SS-pro
...you easely forget it.

HERE is another experiment i made...that might
give you some ideas

I have downloaded your project file and there certainly seems to be some interaction between the menu and keyframe.

It seem to be a different bug to the one mentioned previously. If I can confirm it, I'll pass a stripped down version of your project file on to VM.

For now, your easiest option is to put the animation in an i-frame, as you have done elsewhere -- unless Radio has hit on something better.

Thanks for the suggestions Radio. With respect to your #1 point;
I have the mouse over the main button (blue one, obj1476)) showing the drop down menu group (obj1494 which includes the red version of the main button) ‘one time’. Then again on mouse over the group (obj1494) show group object ‘only when trigger is visible’. This worked fine on the index page until I used the key frame action. This same menu precedure works on all the other pages.
Your #2 point;
I tied it and it works fairly good but I had real difficulty to line up the buttons properly and have them show exactly in the right positions on some different browsers. But I certainly will keep this idea in mind in the future.

I really do think there is a software problem causing trouble when action and drop dowm menus are on the same page.

As Brucee suggested, I guess for now I will take the easy way out and once again use an Iframe as I had to do on the Council page of the website.

.

What i showed you was made using
"follow object path"
i did not use any "key frame path"

Maybe only using "follow object path"
can solve your problem ?

Thanks radio. I did try the "follow object path". But I have given up and decided to just use the IFame method.

Sorry to hear that...but i understand/agree
this animation stuff (menus) is very difficult
It takes a lot of concentration, not something
that you do on a 2 hours a day base...instead
better to do this in long (8 hour) sessions Big Grin
