I have been using SiteSpinner to build my website for about a year now and, in general, have been very happy. I recently split the website into two projects. One project is for the Journals, and one project is for everything else. Besides splitting the project (because it was becoming too large), I have not changed how I do anything, at least not knowingly. A few days ago, I uploaded many new pages to the website from each of the two projects. While it said that no problems were encountered in uploading, I have encountered a problem with one portion of the Journals that I do not understand and do not know how to fix. Please, can you help me?
Something is wrong with the margins and footers in all of Chris’ Journal pages. The interesting thing is that when I go to the website on my computer via Internet Explorer, everything looks correct. However, when other people go to the site, they find that the pages in Chris’ Journal are not right. The top of each entry is underlined in bold and should all be on one line (the day and date is on the left side of the page, and the day number is on the right side of the page, all on the same line). Many people see this on three lines. I have not entered any hard returns to cause this. Then at the bottom after the last entry, for the week, there is a yellow footer with three links. Many people see this part way down the page covering text. I must also note that this error is present on uploaded Journal entries (for 2008) that were correct and that I did not touch with this latest upload. On this most recent upload, I uploaded Jan - Apr 2009 for both Chris and Josh and uploaded (updated) their journal home pages. Lastly, on Chris’ Journal 2008 Home Page, the picture would did not upload, although I did not receive any error message when uploading. Please advise how I can fix this problem. It is very difficult to fix a problem that I do not see on my computer. For your reference, the website is: www.gohlkesonliberty.com As an example of the problem, look at Chris' Journal for Jan 7th - 14th, 2009 - or any date in 2009 for that matter. This can be accessed from the home page, journals, chris' journal. Thank you all in advance. |

Hi
Internet Explorer is renown for being sloppy with regards to abiding with html standards, where what are known as Standards compliant browsers such as Firefox and Opera are much stricter. Some of the other guys can give you chapter and verse on this. I noticed the bottom of the lower most post partially hides behind the footer, this may not be related to the problems you have. I also noticed in the code that you're using a font called Myriad web pro. I don't have this font on my computer, so it defaults to Times New roman. In the text editor, look for the fonts that have WS next to them, these are pretty much guaranteed to be on all computers. If you want to use a fancy font, create an image of a font, in SS this would be by using the Title editor but this isn't actually text. I think your header lines problem is to do with the fact that you have about lots of space characters between the date and the day number. Depending on the font used, this will space out differently. You have used one huge text block for all the entries (or so it seems). I understand why you've done this. I'd have three text blocks for each entry. Day, Date in the first Day number in the 2nd in line with the first Blog entry in the third. To keep the formatting right, you can group these together. To aid your testing, why not download and install copies of Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera If you want to test on dozens of browser and operating system combinations, visit http://browsershots.org/ enter your address and press the button. Edited for spelling mistakes (I wish I could type properly!) This message has been edited. Last edited by: Geek-u-like (Andrew), |

Andrew,
Thank you for taking the time to look at my website, explain it all, and give me your suggestions. I spent the day changing the fonts on the journal pages to websafe fonts and re-uploading, and everything seems to work and line up now. Again, thank you. |
