Hi

I really wasn't getting to get involved in this again and it will be the last time ;-)

quote:
Content is everything
Eek

LOL ....

Sorry Stevo I really don't mean to be rude or condescending but as a general statement to how sites are listed in search results these days is a just so far from the truth.. in an ideal world yes.

If I search Google for 'Free Cursors' I can show you Dozens, If not hundreds of 'web Sites' that are listed in the first umpteen pages of results that are ALL 'Spam' Sites with absolutely ZERO content but are just links pages back to 'Cursor Mania' who guess what spend probably hundreds of thousands of pounds a year advertising with guess who.. of yes Google ! Surely I'm not suggesting... Hmmm...

Yes Good content Obviously helps getting ranked well but is just So Far from giving you a good ranking in the results.

Well That's MY opinion and Until someone actually proves to me otherwise it'll stay.

Yes I am tied and in a very bad mood lol Razz

Regards
Andy

& Happy Xmas If that's your thing !

Hi Andy, long time no hear from you. How's the taxi biz? Hope you are doing well. You are right content doesn't give you ranking, but since I started piling on more content every day, my rankings and traffic has gone way up. Like double the daily visitors. The more words related to my products end up matching more searches. I'm no expert on any of this (car saleman not webmaster), I just know it works. Probably lots of other things also. Example: I mention a 4360 fuel injection unit for a 57 Corvette and next thing I see is someone searching those words and landing on the page. If I had not added the copy, the hit would not have happened.

Take care my friend and Merry Christmas

CS - I think you might have got the wrong Andy...

Andy - Another way to attach a cursor for a webpage if you have SiteSpinner Pro.

1) Import an image using Mona Lisa
2) Select the Action Editor > Paths tab, and select both the buttons under 'Follow Mouse Movement'
3) Preview.

Ok, so I said I wasn't going to reply to this thread again but you all must know what I'm like by now and I had to confirm to Stevo that I'm not that Andy lol.

Taxi driving, that involves far to much contact with vomit for my liking, can you tell what country I come from lol.

You site looks really Interesting Stevo, I used to be in the trade myself but always hated it and eventually managed to escape ! Do you actually restore them yourself or are you 'just' a seller ? I can't get my head around the price of Classic muscle these days such as Dodge Chargers etc, there just SO basic, there can't be any kind of rebuild costs compared to other classic what so ever yet are going for such 'stupid' money, I guess so many people must want them ...

I do need a stronger pair of glasses though when I go back to have a better look, writing is a wee bit small !

Thanks for pointing out it was the wrong Andy Derry and the SSP tip was much appreciated, sadly I'm still just using WD and probably always will now. You 'nearly' tempted me with your Xmas SS discount but the Pound has just bombed out so badly against everything thanks to our idiot government ( I can always get a rant in somewhere ! ) that buying out of the UK is a No No at the moment Frown

Bad everywhere though I know .... Confused

Regards
Andy

Well some good news for once and it has also 'answered' something I had wondered about for a while re all this search engine listing.

My Cursor site was Not at the root folder on my server space but in another folder in the root with many other sites also. Now it never seemed to be ranked as good as when it was with another host I used to use that Was in the root folder. So I always wondered if Google was 'anti' free web hosts or just 110mb.com in particular or it just didn't like the site not being in the root folder.

Well today Google has just cached my new Domain name with my relocated site that IS now in the root folder of it's own server space, the results ....

I just searched 'free animated cursors' and it came back in 5th place, this is the highest I have ever seen it, coming up from 10th - 20th ( varied alot )

Now the best result is when I search for 'free cursors', my site would be no where to be seen anywhere, today it was ranked 30th, (it was 23rd when I first looked, it dropped 7 places while writing this lol ! )

Still not good but a great improvement and hopefully may get better from here, it's a start !

I jut though I would mention this as it has NOTHING to do with updating the site, or metag tags, blah blah blah as it has been re cached loads of times lately with NO improvement what so ever, this just happened today and can only be attributed to one of the above 2 points.

It's just something worth noting if you use free servers like i do Wink

Kind regards
Andy

Thanks for the click Bruce, every click helps Smile I have been on PR 1/10 for a while now so it is more pages, info and seo and a PR 2/10 soon I hope Big Grin

Nice unique vistitor count Captain Stevo. The sitemap is a big help with google. If you play their game they will reward you.

I looked at your site Stevo, good work with the site, heaps of information and some lovely cars on there. Just 1 thing I may point out. You could do with a back button on the car details back to the list chosen.

My site now is ranking at position 3 in google for the search term "joiner sheffield" Hope it stays there Cool

I used to have a PR of 3. It then went to 0, but has climbed to 1 over the past year.
I notice that the VM Gallery pages are now unranked, but used to be somewhere between 3 and 5, if I remember rightly. I am sure that the Gallery links helped PR

Hey Bailey, just FYI, the gallery is now all 'no-follow' links so don't expect any link love there. Interestingly enough though the links in this forum are still 'do-follow'.

Thanks for that info, wrr Smile
Is there any particular reason why VM made that change?

Why VM choose to do this I have no clue but I'll share this with you so you can see this too. First, you do use Firefox right? Ok, Good, now you need to install this little extension called SearchStatus . It will appear as a small icon in the status bar at the bottom of the browser. Right click on it and you'll see all the neat things this can do. For this purpose, choose the "Highlight Nofollow Links" option. Now when you are viewing the VM Gallery , or any web page, you'll see all the Nofollow links highlighted. Neat huh?

Why would I want to know this? Good question and glad you asked! Suppose you were looking to get some easy links back to your website and you wanted to post a comment on a blog or forum, including your link of course. Now you'll know if you will get any link love for your efforts.

Personally I'm not a fan of the 'Nofollow' attribute, I suppose it has some legit uses but it's also widely mis-used, IMHO. So having this info available to you on the fly can be quite helpful.

I insatalled the Searchstatus in FF wrr. A very handy little tool for quick information on a site, thanks

Bailey a link from a website to yours with a PR 4/10 or above is a major help. The higher the PR the better the link.

Hi Bailey/wrr,

We had to add the nofollow code to the Gallery page as we were getting sites that kept switching - that is, they would be posted as a B&B for example, and then later turned out to be S&M Red Face. We're looking at ways to rectify this, and so be able to remove the nofollow attribute.

Yeah thanks Derry, didn't think you guys would do that just for no reason.

When you get the B&B vs. S&M stuff sorted could you cut down on the number of sites listed on each page in the gallery? I didn't count the number there now but looks like between the Gallery links and the regular VM site links that it could be over a hundred which probably has a negative impact both on the pages ability to rank as well as the link juice that's passed forward.

'If you Can't Beat Them Join Them'

I really Hate that attitude but as we are talking mainly about Google Ive decided I couldn't care and add a 'spam' page to fill up the net with even more garbage, hey Cursor Mania have hundreds of them !

Taking some of Adaptors advice I have made a page on a seperate server that is called 'free cursors', has a url of 'freecursors' and guess what has the term 'freecursors' mentioned on it quite a bit and then has a link to my site.

'Free Cursors' ( without the quotes ) is really them main search term for cursors and over the last few months I have moved from nowhere ( no domain name ) to page 5, and now with a couple more good links to me I have creeped up to page 3.

This page has only been 'up' about 3 days and so is not cached yet but I am dying to see when it is what position it will enter at and If it gets higher than my actual website !

Free Cursors

If I get any Interesting news I will update !
