Has anyone been able to install SiteSpinner on Vista? I just tried tried to install it here, and it bails about 80% thru the install process, with no real error given. Hmmm....

I know VM has a Vista version coming (try to say that quickly!) -- so my guess is that the current version won't work very well on Vista.

You could either wait, or maybe VM is looking for a Beta tester. Derry, are you reading this...?

What version of Vista are you running? 64 bit? 32 bit? Premium? Home? Etc....

There should be an option to right click on the setup file and run it as if it was under XP. I don't know if this will work but it may.

Do you know what it is hanging on? a certain file everytime or something different?

We have not finished our Vista testing yet, but a couple of things to try are:

- Log on as Administrator (that is, as the account named Administrator, not a user with Admin rights) and install from there.
- Try setting the installer to run in 'compatibility mode'.

...always reading Wink

As j razz has asked, let us know what version of Vista you are running.

Derry, I was about to purchase SS I see that it is now Vista compatible, but I am buying a disk for installation, will there be any trouble updating from that? I don't download programs from the web any longer without a re-install disk.

The latest release is not available on CD at this time.

Keep in mind that you can download the latest release from our site, and burn it to CD.

hi i just bought a new laptop which is running vista 32 bit, i started a site on my work computer which runs XP and i want to go ahead and purchase the software so i can finish the site at home. However when ive dowloaded the trial it wont work on Vista. I have looked at the options from previous users who have come across this error 1619 but nothing seems to fix it and allow me to install using vista. If i go ahead and simply purchase the software am i going to have the same issue? does the full software run in the same format as the demo? thanks!

I run SiteSpinner, WebEngine and the SS-Pro beta on my Vista system. The only difference between the trial version and the retail version is the trial version can only be used for a non-consecutive 15-day time period.

A web search shows that the 1619 error is an installation error that could be caused by the msi package or by Vista itself. I would try another download just in case the first was corrupted somehow.

Are you up to date on your Vista patches? Is service pack 1 installed? Can you install the software if you right-click and "Run as administrator"?

Keep watching this thread as VM does monitor the forum and may have more info than I do. I'm sure VM would hate losing a sale.

Which version of Vista are you running? I don't think it should matter, but you never know. I'm running Ultimate and have been running both SS and WE (for over a year) and SS-Pro beta since the first one hit the (public) streets. Did you do as Larry suggested and do a re-download of the trial?

Just for grins, I just did a download of the trial version of SS V2.7f and install with no problems.

Hi little_y,

Can you try downloading and installing the software from here.

Let us know if that helps. If not, forward off an email to us at vmsupport@virtualmechanics.com and we can try emailing the package to you.

after doing a bit of googling, ive found it may have something to do with needing to change the set up for the Enable Content Expiration tab... anyone know how to access this on vista? -

symptoms
When you install a Setup application built with Visual Studio .NET that is configured with the Web Bootstrapper settings, you may receive the following error message:
An error occurred installing the package. Windows Installer returned '1619'.

CAUSE
The method that the Windows Installer uses to download the file to the client is prone to a bug that causes the error. The Windows Installer finds that the content expiration date has expired and the installer prevents the setup from continuing.

thanks Smile

Go into control panel and bring up User Accounts. You should see your account displayed. If you aren't an Administrator already, select Change your account type and you should be able to set yourself to have an administrator account.

I would then suggest that you uninstall any SS that you currently may have installed, or partially installed, go into the Program Files directory and delete the Virtual Mechanics directory. Then, assuming you are now an administrator, try installing again. No guarantees that this will work, but you should be starting with a clean slate.

If you don't want to keep your account as an administrator, remember to go back in and change it back to a standard account.
