I'm just guessing at this point...
Is your remote directory set to "/" (no quotes)? From the output you posted, it looks like you are trying to publish to your domain name instead of your root directory. Have your tried publishing locally to disk, then using another FTP client to upload your files? |

Have you tried publishing to your local computer?
Does the website created there work ok? Are all the pictures visible? If not, it could be that SS can't find the images and you need to re-establish a path to the images using the New Dir option in the geometry editor. Not that you haven't, but I would always publish locally before pushing to the web so that if there is an issue, you find it before your boss or customer does! If publishing locally works, and you have access to an FTP program, I would completely blow-away the existing site and upload from scratch, that way you know there won't be an issue with already existing files and directories. You can also do this within your control panel file manager. Lovely looking horses though. Edit: Following on from Larry's post, many webhosts require that you publish to public_html for example Sorry Larry, I was typing while you were! |

Yes, each page should be a separate .html file. The easiest way to upload is to set up a Windows Network Location (see this). Then your site will look just like a standard disk folder. Since you are using Vista, you will need to open My Computer and right-click in the open area of the window to start the wizard. |

Assuming you have something like Filezilla (clue) then you need to create a New site.
Your host is typically ftp.[yourdomain].ca If it requires a Port, then typically Port 21 Logontype, Normal User: If you have a CPanel server, then it could be [user]@[domain name].ca, if not it could just be an ordinary user name Password, I'm sure you get this. You may need to create an FTP user on your control panel - your hosting company shouldbe able to advise. Typically the new site you create will be called not surprisingly, 'New Site' Use the rename button to call it something sensible. Using these settings, you will log into the root of your account on the server. Make sure you publish to public_html or wherever it's going to be visible. When you have the remote server open, you should be able to delete the old content. I'd advise against deleting the cgi-bin folder as this will contain formmail programs and other stuff that could be a pain to recreate. Be cautious and only delete the stuff you know is yours! See how you get on with this. |

What means "file exists" ? Usually if you upload a new version of your page/website...then most files will indeed exist. So such a notification as "file exist" seems funny and pretty useless...unless maybe this means that it cant be overwritten ? (using the same name) If so...maybe they are locked against overwriting at the server-folder ? So you wanna unlock them there ? Radio |

Once you have your Network Location set up, double-clicking the icon in My Computer will open your site so that it looks like a disk folder. AT this point, you should see your site's directory structure: root folder, SiteSpinner's image and geometry folders, and possibly other site folders.
If you open another My Computer window and navigate to the folder where you published you project, you should be able to drop & drag files from the publish folder(s) to the identical folder(s) on your site. The process is just like making a manually back-up by copying files from one location to another. |

Couldn't get Windows Network Location to work so now I'm trying Filezilla ... could you talk me thru the process ... I tried draging and dropping one page and was told the transfer was complete but what do I do with the geometry and image files for this one page ... after transferring the page it looked the same as after I did the transfer thru SS ... the original pics showed but not the new pics placed after I started to use SS on my new computer ... dd

This is a bit simplistic, but I tend to do the whole site rather than work out the bits that have changed, far too complicated.
I don't drag and drop however, I select the files and then right click and select upload. What you might also be noticing if things don't change is local file cacheing by either your PC or your ISP. If using IE, you do a [shift] and refresh, it should force it to go back to the server to get a fresh copy. Let us know how you get on. |

Well guess what!!! ... the SS FTP started working again ... after 3 days of total frustration it starts ... there was a reason I tried the transfer today ... this was the first time since I started using SS on my new computer that a pop up window asked me if I wanted to save changes to the file ... up on till now I was having to remember to manually save changes or the changes would be lost ... I was always suspicious that SS was not saving the new additions ... that being the reason for the failed FTP transfer ... thanks everyone for your help ... dd

I'm back again with the same problem ... only some of the objects on a page are being uploaded ... when SS FTP started working for me I successfully uploaded 45 revised pages and the final page of my revision project started to show the same error message as before (error 12003, 550 file exists) ... see the end result (www.newperthfarms.ca/Zinosa.html)... I now want to use Filezilla to upload the Zinosa page which I published to a local directory ... I've had no luck uploading thru Filezilla and how do I handle the image and geometry files? ... I believe the SS FTP stops publishing everytime there is an update for Vista ... I'm hoping when I install Windows 7 my publishing problems will go away which won't be until the end of the month ... dd

The fact that you have problems with both the SiteSpinner FTP and Filezilla indicates a problem with your internet connection. In SiteSpinner you might have luck in switching between active and passive FTP modes (setting in the Publisher). If Filezilla has an equivalent setting, try that there too.
To upload your project with FileZilla, as well as the .html files you have probably already uploaded, you also need to upload the entire image and geometry folders, complete with contents. Place the folders in your root directory where the .html files are. |
