What files do I need to make a backup?

To backup a project for future editing you need to save the project file (the .ims file) and also any image files or other external files that you used in the project.

When you restore the project, depending on where the project and images were located originally, the images may not be visible on the first re-loading. You will need to tell the software where to find the images. Do that by opening the Geometry Editor and clicking on 'New Dir'. This will let you tell the software to look in a new location for all the images that were in the old location. See the FAQ on this subject here for more information.

You may also want to save your Publisher profiles (FTP settings, etc.) and the Link Manager's list.
- Turn off all copies of SiteSpinner
- Copy, then delete ftppro.ini and/or urllist.htm from C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR LOGON NAME]\Application Data\Virtual Mechanics\Bin (substitute your log in name for [YOUR LOGON NAME])
- Put the copy you want in: C:\Program Files\Virtual Mechanics\SiteSpinner V2\bin\ (or wherever you installed)
- run the software

NOTE: If you have used the 'Save Password' option, your passwords will be in the ftppro.ini file and are not encrypted.

To make a copy of your published files you can publish to 'Files on Disk' using the 'gather all files' mode. This produces the same files as publishing to your web server in gather mode. The contents of the Publish Directory can then be copied onto a CD and used to restore your web server or can be viewed directly from the CD. Of course any code or external files that SiteSpinner does not control will have to be accounted for.
