I am having a strange problem. I have used sitespinner for a long time and this has never happened.

I went to edit a page and cannot add any new items to it!I can alter existing items, like adding more text to a text box, but cannot make a new text box. It shows in the editor like normal, but won't show on my site when it publishes. It will publish changes to existing items though, so it's working right. I was going to removed the sale prices and put "Reserved" in their places, but it won't do it! I was able to take the sale price from the top buck for sale and *change* it to reserved, and then press enter several times to make space and wrote reserved again as well to show under the next buck, but this is the only way I can get it to show.

In the process of trying to figure out what was going on, I deleted the title for the next pair of twin bucklings (I expanded the text box above for the price of the above buckling to readd it), and the price of the next buck. I cannot add these back. Super wierd. I have tried closing the program and reopening, and restarted my computer twice. Any ideas? My page looks all goofy now.

Here is the page for reference: www.naturespets.com/laytonhollow/forsale.html

Eddie makes some good points:
1. Preview should be enough to show whether your changes are working -- no need to publish each time you test.
2. Does this problem happen only on this one page or on other pages as well?

To that I would add a third point: can you run the project on some other computer? If you don't have ready access to one, can you instead post the name of your project file? -- That will allow someone else to download it from your site (if you have auto-backup on) and test on another computer that way.

You're right, the same changes won't show in preview. We have another computer, I will have to see if it will work when I get the chance.

I uploaded my site onto my other computer, and it is doing the same thing. Very frustrating! There are some changes I would really like to make to my site. It is doing the same thing with my sires page. It will not show the changes in my preview either.

My other sites are able to be updated without problem though.

As you are only having this problem with the one project, there is obviously a problem with that.

When you published this particular project, did you have the option “Auto Backup Project File When Publishing” selected? If not, may I suggest you do so then re-publish (or upload your IMS file to your site).

Then do as Bruce suggested and post the name of your IMS file so that someone can have a look at it for you.

I am unsure of what autobackup is, but I see it is checked by default.

Do you mean the name of the IMS file in my computer? It is simply "goat site". Sorry I'm a tad confused Smile

When Auto Backup is checked, your IMS file (the SS project file) is also uploaded to your site as a backup in case you loose the file on your computer.

The file “goat site.ims” is there, but when I tried to access it, it opened as a text file in my browser, and did not give me the option to download it.

When you open the project in SS, is the name of your project “goat site”

If so, the spacing could be a problem. Try resaving the project as “goatsite” or “goat_site” then upload the IMS file again.

I’ll take that back. There is no problem with using spaces.

I just tried the same exercise on one of my sites that has spaces in the IMS file name, and it worked fine.

This leads me to believe that your project file has been somehow corrupted.

I suggest you open a new blank project and append the “goat site” project then re-save it under a different name.

If that does not solve the problem, try the same exercise again, but this time delete all bar one page then do another test. Repeat this process, leaving only one extra page each time, until you find the offending page.

Until someone comes along with a better idea, that’s all I can think of.

Your project file gives the impression that it is corrupted, but your host seems to be sending it as a text file. I've got a feeling that there is a setting on your host (mime-types?) that may be responsible.

However in Firefox, I was able to save the "text file" as a .ims file, and now I can open it in SiteSpinner (without images of course).

However, I can't replicate the problem as you described it. Can you upload your very latest project file as "test.ims?" I suspect that there is some recent change that is causing the problem.

If you use a separate program to upload, then uploading a "test.ims" will be easy. If you are are using SiteSpinner to do the upload, then you will need to be a little more devious. One way would be to add a single blank page named "test" to your test.ims project file, then publish that single page using your normal publish profile. That way you will avoid upsetting the working part of your site.

I am a little confused, I know enough to make a website, not just a ton more. Smile

As far as my host, I've used this host for several years for 3 other websites (technically two, as one is naturespets.com , this site is hosted on that same domain) without this problem.

I will upload the test page. Hopefully I will do it right Smile

I really need to get this fixed! I am so busy I can't hardly work on it.

Ok, hopefully I did this correctly. I made a test.ims file, made a test page, and published with the same profile as the site with the problem.

Looks like your test.ims file is just the project file for your blank test.html page. So, nothing to be gained there. Let's try another tack:

Can you email me your problem project file? -- address in my public profile. Also as a recap, please point out a page with the problem and describe the steps I should take to (attempt to!) recreate it.

Got that -- thank you.

Your Sitemeter code is invalid -- looks like you accidentally truncated it when you copied and pasted. The code is near the bottom of each page. Anything you add will be after that and will be affected. Existing objects are not affected because they are ahead of the bad Code object.

Repairing or deleting that Sitemeter code should solve your problem.
