I've searched and found no mention of this, maybe someone can tell me how to fix this. Preview now brings up a different page than the one I was working on. I get two or three times of correct page in the preview, then it starts showing a different page (not being worked on currently.)
Suggestions?
Thanks

Try "preview all" -- the double arrows on the top toolbar. When you do a single page preview, the only page that is rebuilt is the one currently showing on your workpage. (Not the pages showing in i-frames.)

If you are working with i-frames, you may need to build two or more pages:
  • the one holding the frames
  • the pages appearing in the frames

If you have been working on two projects, the previews can become intermingled. Eg if you have a link to "page2" in your project, but fail to rebuild (preview) "page2", you will get the previous page2 appearing -- which will be whatever "page2" is still lurking in your preview folder from a previous project.

Unless your project is large, preview all is the easiest option to fix these problems.

Isn't the double arrow the same as 'preview project'? (& if not, why not?)-----which is what I have been using.
    No frames.
    Only the one project.
Previewing the page on the workpage; but getting a different page in the preview.
And thank you for answering---I'm going outside to shovel snow now!

    What's "snow"? Wink

Preview project should be the same as the double arrows. The only other possiblility I can think of is that you may have redirection operating on some pages (although that does not fully match the symptoms you described in your first post). Check the Page Editor > Links tab. Make sure "Redirect to New Location is unchecked.

If that does not help, can you provide some more description? eg:
  • How many pages in your project?
  • What is the page name/number you are working on?
  • What page name/number displays when you preview?
  • Does it happen only on some pages or all pages?

Try clearing out the VM Preview files.. Go to Program files> Virtual Mechanics> Site Spinner> Preview Files.. and empty the folder.

Also it may be your browser caching an old page. Try pressing the refresh button in your browser.

Thank you. Redirect is unchecked. There are 13 pages. Currently, previewing page 'Gifts' and getting page 'Garden hints'. It happens to whatever page I am editing, though not always. So it is indiscriminate and intermittent. I have the feeling that some kind of buffer somewhere is full?

Just to summarize what is actually happening (I don't have any more suggestions):
  • You have 'Gifts' open in your workpage
  • You preview that single page
  • The page that appears in your browser is 'Garden hints'
  • The problem is intermittent -- often you get the correct page, but if you repeatedly preview the same page, eventually it comes up wrongly

If that summary is wrong, please correct me.

What happens if you have other pages open in the workpage -- is it still 'Garden hints' that wrongly shows -- or can other unwanted pages show in your browser too? And what browser are you using? Is there any difference between a preview without an editing change and a preview after an editing change? Do you shut down the browser between previews (by clicking the close button at the top right of the browser window)? Is it only one project that behaves like this? Can you make it happen with any demo project that ships with SiteSpinner? What happens if you rename the page 'Garden hints' to 'GardenHints' -- normally you should avoid spaces in page names.

    Clutching at straws here Smile

This folder was huge...and emptying it seems to have done the trick. (I think!). Thanks!

I think it may be fixed but your summary was basically correct. This problem has happened before but not very often (hence intermittent). It happens to pages with single word or multi word names (though thanks for the tip and I will remove spaces). Yes, I close the preview window between previews. As I emptied the preview folder and it quit, I think that was maybe it. I'll report back if that doesn't solve it. As I tend to do a lot of fussy tweaks, I can see that I could overburden the preview folder. (If that is indeed what happened!)

Mmm no, it's not fixed. Still doing it. I removed the space in the page name, nothing seems to work. The page I keep getting sent to is one I have not finished yet and have not made any links to, and I've never used the redirect feature so that's not it. The preview folder has just been cleared. This is not a huge impediment but it is frustrating.

Can you post your project and a link to it? Or email it to me? Just the .ims file should be enough. Images will show only as place holders - but that should not be a problem. It will be interesting to see if someone can recreate this on another computer.

After hashing this back & forth (lots of support from Bruceee) it seems to have been because the previous copy of Spinner was running AS WELL as the current one. With that safely moved out of the VM folder, all is well. Why it would be using files in both versions, and saving different things to both, remains a mystery. Thanks all round.

I am experiencing a simlar problem today with Preview in Web Engine BETA 2, which has not happened to me before. Here is my problem:

    1. When I Preview Project, older versions of pages come up in the browser. There are five pages in the website. The index.html page comes up OK, and if I Preview each of the subsequent four pages one at a time they come up OK in the browser. The problem is when I try to Preview Project. Then the changes I made to the four pages are not reflected in the browser. I cleared the cache and everything in my browser (firfox 1.0) and I cleaned-up my Preview Folder too. But I can't seem to get the changes made to the subsequent pages to display in the browser. It is a puzzle because I can see all of the updates for all the pages when I click select each page from the picklist and also if I Preview each page separately. The problem is only with Preview Project. I'm pulling my hair out with this, please help! Thanks.

I resolved the Preview Project problem in my browser (Firefox 1.0, sorry for spelling error in previous message). Very strange, but after trying many different things, the answer seemed to be with Windows XP Service Pack 2 which added a function called "Set Program Access & Defaults" which is accessed from the START Button in XP. I use a "Custom" setting to set Firefox as my Default Browser. I simply went back in and refreshed Firefox as my Default Browser and then Preview Project ( >> ) then worked OK. What did not work before that was clearing the Cache in Firefox or clicking the browser Refresh button. The only solution seems to be to re-set Firefox as the Default Browser from the "Set Program Access & Defaults" window.
