With 1.99T I am unable to preview either of my two sites...unless I am connected to the net, anyone else got this?

This mainly happens..without fail for the index page of both sites.. and 95% of times when trying to preview the other pages...unless connected to the net when they open perfectly well.

You have my Streamline site files so try see if this happend with you.

No, It does happen here with your files.

What do you see when it fails? Is IE (or other browser) starting but the preview is not loaded?

It almost sound like a browser problem. Can you still launch an html file by double clicking on it? We have seen cases with IE were it would not launch if another particular program was running. MS Photo Editor is one such.

Has anyone else encountered this problem with version 199T?

It may also be a referencing problem. Are there other objects on the page? Like a Flash object that the browser can't find for some reason?

I think that I have worked out what is causing this the error ( and what may have lead up to it) and I have sent you the two error reports which you may be able to decipher.

I beleive that there are 2 issues here (from what I can make out) and possibly this is down to the installtion of a particular XP Security patch which I downloaded prior to downloading 1.99T. ( However, there is another issue there in-as-much as the download for this patch failed several times to actually install..... oh what a tangled web we weave!)

Going back to WE 1.99T.

In each of my two projects I have tried to open the htm files, and indeed I have the same error problem which of course leads to your suggestion that there may be an IE6 browser problem. But why should this suddenly happen when I was using 1.99S only a couple of hours before? Also, on this point, if I am connected to the net they open successfully so there must be a link there somewhere.

Well, as mentioned, this could be that I had just had an XP Update notification and downloaded (or rather tried to download) Q328310 Xp Security patch. This particualr patch failed to install.. and I tried this a couple of times.

Now, I have Sitemeter on the two of my sites and I have I have found that if I remove the html for Sitemeter for both then they open correctly in Preview and via the html files.

So it looks like something is affecting my IE6 Browser. Now, if you recall that I was having problems hearing embeded midi files so I reinstall XP, which cured the problem, and, of course, this meant that all the updates needed to be updated again and instead of doing it one big download I have downloaded them bit by bit to see if that particular problem occurred again. Well, so far that has not happened and I have got to the last Update Q328310 and I am having problems again, but it seems to be affecting IE6 differently this time.

And guess what else has happened? All my System Restore dates have been erased!!

Well, I realise that this is not an IMS issue so I will be turning to microsoft to find out if there are any problems with the updates that upset IE6 and indeed more worryingly my System Restore dates.

Phew!!

So you are saying this is NOT an Web Engine issue? That's a relief.

That makes sense because the sitemeter stuff calls javascript from a third party site. That is problably being considered a security risk by the new patch.

As to why 199S worked. I dunno. Perhaps some cache was cleared at midnight or by the new installation that caused the sitemeter to try to call home.

I am sure that it is much to the relief of everyone (pitty there is'nt a toungue in cheek smiley!!) Smile I have cured this problem.

It would appear that when I downloaded the patches/updates (at the same time as downloading WE1.99T) my Internet Options > Connections was reset to "Alway dial my default connection" instead of "Never dial a connection". Therefore what was happening was each time I went to Preview it my Sitemeter wanted to call home .. but of course I wasnt on line...=the error message

I found this out by re-installing XP and doing it all over again and it happened again.

So, everyone can now stop having sleepless nights over my problemBig Grin
