SiteSpinner 2.70.f and Web Engine 2.90 Beta 4.

This thread reported a phantom object that seemed impossible to delete.

The phantom turns out to be part of a group. To make your very own phantom do this:
  • Create a fresh two-page project
  • Make a permanent group on one page -- I used two default rectangles
  • "Include" this group on all pages (two pages here)
  • Cut the group from one page
  • On either page, click above the rectangles (or where they were) and "Select All Above"

The phantom now appears in the top left corner of the workpage.

There seem to be two bugs here:
    1. The phantom actually shows itself, and confuses users
    2. The phantom still appears on the page from where the group was cut.

    aha!
now this sounds very much like the post iv just posted ROGUE OBJ!
i cannot delete it, cannot find where its part of a group yet it has chosen to include itself on every page, so must be part of a group somewhere eh?
i have gone throo every single page (19 of them) tried to un-include, tried the clean components but for life of me cannot delete the thing!
this is WEBENGINE i'm using, not SiteSpinner!

Can you post a link to a page showing this problem? The problem I saw originally didn't result in anything visible on a published page, but that seems to be happening in your case.

Also, if you have auto-backed up your .ims project file, it should be your site. If so, what name did you use? With that, I should then be able to download it and look further into the problem.

hi Bruceee, the page the words WERE showing on is at http://www.ukmobility4u.co.uk/ i have managed however to relode that page to make it not show as the client dosnt much care for it showing!
the rogue item in question was 1/4 showing top left corner, i cannot click the item in webengine i can only use the drag mouse option to select it!
it is still appearing in webengine on every page and still nothing i do (been using ss and webengine 5 years now so not a newbie!) will change this phantom.
Obviously never experienced this glitch before i tried loading a page specialy for you to see but gues what, it wont show the words again! lol
then i deleted everything on the cloned index page reloded it and the rogue object is no longer on there, so my guess is that it IS attached to something on that page... but what!

this is now the page without the phantom!

Thank you, I was able to download mobility2.ims and run it.

While I can see the phantom top left of many pages, I can't see anywhere it leaves a visible effect when you preview or publish. I have not found an easy way to remove these phantoms, so my suggestion is to ignore them.

That is, unless they are causing a problem with your published pages. Can you point to a page with the problem as it is on your site? You mentioned some extra text showing -- might that have been some other problem that you have since fixed?
    quote:
oh i even tried to clean components and it told me 406 were NOT being used ok to clean them and deleted the entire page!
Also I tried Edit > Clean components. That deleted only one object for me, not a whole page.

    thanx for that Bruceee!
I am alas unsure what i did to make the text disappear off the published page, but the client pointed out the text was there, tis a shame i didnt take a screen shot cos the phantom has gone into invisible mode now!
i shall take your advice and ignore it, and reopen this if it does indeed to show its published head again
although it is still saying lots of components to clean and deleting the entire contents at my end! lol

If you try the mobility2.ims project as on your site, does that do the same? When it deletes the entire contents, is that a whole page? -- if so which one?

ok, clean components now tells me i got one object to clean and worked fine, i saved the project in another ims and it told me i had 498 to clean, cleaned them and the page this time remained intact!

this phantom is alive and having some fun with me methinks! lol

the client noticed the words printed on the web page it seems it appeared after i had changed the mailform to ensure people had to leave their email addy or form wouldnt be submitted, perhaps its just an extra > or space where shouldn't be one!
