1. Under Options->Edit Link Library, when the Link Manager window appears, there is a setting "Always add new URL's to the list". This setting is not saved when the program is closed. Restarting the program (SS or WE) shows the setting is reset to being active. This setting should be treated like all the other program Option settings and saved when the program is closed. If this cannot be done, please give us an option on the Project Options to globally inhibit adding new URL's.
2. After the URLs are deleted from the Link Manager list, there seems to be a list still being maintained somewhere. When using the Quick Editor link tab, Object Editor link tab, or text editor Link Editor, any key pressed in the URL field will begin a code-completion entry of the URL (except for [page] URL types). If I deleted the URL list, where are these code-completion URLs coming from? 3. The Link Manager "Always add new..." check-box and the text editor Link Editor "Add new..." check-box are worded differently leading someone (me) to think that by unchecking the Link Editor option would not add URLs to the list. Since the Link Editor check-box actually reflects the state of the Link Manager "Always add" check-box, please change the Link Editor wording to "Always add new..." This would also bring it into line with the Quick Edit and Object Editor check-box labels. Also, unchecking the save URL option in the Quick Edit and Object Editor is reflected in the Link Manager, but unchecking the Link Editor option does not modify the Link Manager setting. Inconsistent operation. |

I see these issues too.
For item 2, I think that is OK. The code completion is be picking up data from the Windows history list -- that may be helpful in many cases. I deleted my history and all the completion stuff stopped working -- so that confirms it. It seems to be using data from only part of the history list though -- and it's a mystery as to which part. I can't investigate any further just now -- I just deleted my history list |

RE: Item 2.
I guess my next question is if the Window's history list is being used for the code completion URLs, then why are we saving URLs in the Link Manager? If two different lists are being used, then the documentation should reflect that clearing the Link Manager list doesn't fully delete everything and that you have to go outside the program to do so. |

Hi Larry,
Just to repond to your points: 1. Yes, the state of 'add urls to the list' should be remembered from session to session. 2. The text completion is really a Windows' thing like you see in File Save dialog filename boxes and other Windows' text boxes. I guess it would be good to mention in the help files but, with windows features, you can't always mention everything. I'll pass it on to the help people. 3. Yes, all the instances of 'add urls to the list' should reflect the same state. I think the difference between 'Always add ...Url's...' and 'Add ...Url's...' was just a question of space available. Technically, they do mean the same thing ... the former is just more emphatic. Anyway, I'll pass on the suggestion. |

I was going to report this as a weird bug, but I think this is the problem. Pain in the ***, but I will try to manually turn off re-adding these links and see if it stops this crap from appearing on saving:

If your complaint is about all the weird links in your code, I don't think that has anything to with the Link manager. It will only use a link if you ask it to.
Assuming you are not (somehow!) putting those links in yourself, there might be some kind of virus involved. Maybe? Can you clarify how you are entering the text, how you are adding the links (that you actually want!) and how you are saving. At what point do the links appear -- do they show in preview before you save? Do the links actually appear in your project file? |
