Hi guys, is there a reason it says (on the website update page)...
...when only 'f' has been released? |

I believe the latest SS version is V2.7'f' but there are people out there that bought earlier versions of SS like V2.5'g' so I suppose that's the reason.

What are the advantages of upgrading and any idea of what it costs? I use V2.7.

Having trouble with the new update and FTP'ing to my GoDaddy.com hosting account. I can FTP just fine using WS_FTP but trying to publish in SiteSpinner using Passive FTP doesn't work.
Any ideas? Thanks. |

Is your new update ver 2.7f? I can publish to my GoDaddy account using Passive Mode. What error(s) are you getting?
The usual suspect in these cases is your firewall/spam/virus software. Try turning them off (make sure their service processes are not running) and see if you get different results. |

You might have a firewall getting in the way, might have incorrect login details, or might be trying to upload to the wrong part of your site. Try Active FTP too. Making a careful note of any error messages should give some clues.
There may be more ideas in the "Publishing your Project" tutorial under Help > Tutorials. |

Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm running a few things that could be impacting my SiteSpinner FTP connection: NetNanny AVG Anti-Virus Windows Firewall I have disabled all three but still having trouble. With NetNanny and AVG off and Windows Firewall turned on: Establishing connection to server: kevingreene.us Preparing to Connect ... Connection Established! Set Remote Path to '/' Connection made to server: kevingreene.us Transferring file: /aboutme.html (8386 bytes) Transferring file: /coaches.html (7461 bytes) Error: (12031) Creating directory on Web Server: '/' (Why is it trying to do this???) The connection with the server was reset Error (12031) Creating file on Web Server: /coaches.html 0 The connection with the server was reset With NetNanny and AVG off and Windows Firewall turned off: Establishing connection to server: kevingreene.us Preparing to Connect ... Set Remote Path to '/' Connection made to server: kevingreene.us Transferring file: /aboutme.html (8386 bytes) Transferring file: /coaches.html (7461 bytes) Error: (12111) Creating directory on Web Server: '/' The FTP session was terminated Error (12111) Creating file on Web Server: /coaches.html The FTP session was terminated WS_FTP works just fine... Thanks. |

First, are you using the same remote directory in both SiteSpinner and WS_FTP? (I'm sure you are, but I had to ask.)
The FTP 12111 error indicates two possible problems: (1) you are being blocked by your firewall or (2) the directory you are trying to write in is read-only. If your firewall is off then we can discount #1. When you connect via WS_FTP, can you upload something? Also, use the SiteSpinner Publisher->FTP tab and use the "Browse" button to make sure SS is finding the correct remote directory. |

The usual fix for your other error, the 12031, is to set Passive mode on.

Thanks for your quick responses.
I get the 12031 error with the firewall ON and Passive Mode ON. I don't understand why it appears to fail trying to create a directory at root. Using WS_FTP I can upload the entire just fine to the same remote directory. I can use the Browse button to find the correct remote directory (root) just fine. I created a subdirectory called "/webroot" and tried uploading with SiteSpinner. Same issue. Is there a "debug mode" that I can enable that will give more FTP details? It's not the end of the world if I have to use WS_FTP, but SiteSpinner was working fine before (previous version of SiteSpinner, and before I installed NetNanny). Thanks again. |

When you shut down NetNanny, did you verify that its process and services were stopped? Norton acted like that on my system and even though I shut it down, it never unloaded the system services. I had to use Control Panel->Administrator Tools->Services to stop them.
Can you browse your site from SiteSpinner? |

The only NetNanny service that I could find was something called "ContentWatch client services". I shut it down but the same thing...
Yes, I can browse my site from SiteSpinner. I guess I could try uninstalling both NetNanny and AVG tomorrow and see what happens. I'm out of other ideas. Thanks. |

I don't understand that either. There may be something strange about the name of the coaches page, so I would try to upload something different that doesn't include that page. It seems to me that if you can browse your site, and you can upload at least one other file (aboutme), there shouldn't be very much wrong. Still it would be interesting to see if you get similar errors with other upload files. I don't know of any recent changes to the SiteSpinner FTP that would explain the altered behavior. I don't know about NetNanny, but I would uninstall it, as it is a "change" -- and reboot afterwards too -- just to be sure. |

Bruce,
Looking at the error messages, I don't think the aboutme page was uploaded either (there are two 12031 errors). From the messages output, it looks like SiteSpinner is moving files either in a batch mode or asynchronously. If I were a betting man, I'd say that SiteSpinner is using the Windows WINET routines. I'm pretty sure that WS_FTP uses a proprietary socket package which is why theirs works. dgreene, can you open a DOS command window and use the built-in Windows FTP program to connect and upload a file? I would think that it also uses the WINET stack, so in theory it should fail also. |

Good morning.
I uninstalled NetNanny this morning and lo and behold the SiteSpinner FTP worked just fine! I then re-installed NetNanny and tried it again. Guess what? It worked! I installed the 2.7f upgrade after NetNanny was already installed. I suppose the workaround for this issue is to make sure SiteSpinner is installed prior to installing NetNanny. Thanks all for your assistance! This message has been edited. Last edited by: dgreene4001, |

I'm confused. Should that be to make sure NetNanny is installed after SiteSpinner since your problems came by having NetNanny installed first?

Whoops! Sorry, I corrected my msg. Install SiteSpinner prior to installing NetNanny!
Too early in the morning for me! :-) |

One other note to NetNanny users:
Make sure SiteSpinnerv2.exe is in your list of Application Overrides in NetNanny's admin tools. |
