I have followed my self-directive and for the first time in several pages have started with a clean page even though it would have been optimum to carry over from the last one.

At about the 2/3 point I have lost no data, encountered no publishing problems, and most noteworthy the book-keeping as been immaculate. Specifically on the latter: a) each deliberate use of "save as" has found the appropriate file name waiting b) the SVG file showed up on the FILE menu drop-down list immediately c) the creation of the embedded .html file at the "save as" point found the SVG file name in the slot as expected instead of some random file name as has been occurring.

Also relevant is that I am not using a .jpg file.

This still leaves the field unfortunately broad but, as regards my repeated problems, a) saving a file to a new file name b) adding new objects (especially a .jpg file) and c) saving the file yet again to a new name has strong supporting evidence that a file/object "book-keeping" issue is created.

Proof, however, is still another matter.

Testing continues.

After exiting Web Engine, I went back to my "pure and clean" absolutely final web page to find that just about every change I had made since very, very early on had been lost. I feel ill. That is about 20 hours of production work.

See this:

http://members.shaw.ca/rrsknox/contcq.html

Every table entry is gone; the tables have reverted to an earlier form; two of the three backgrounds have gone; the titles have changed and their surrounding boxes have gone: & etc. In terms of the number of entities lost, this is my worst loss ever by far. Lordy murphy.

OK. That eliminates the clean file theory but it sure in blaezs doesn't eliminate the book-keeping theory. Neither, however, does it support it.

I was finished with the page. I published and exited. Then I came back to change something and was greeted with this:

RC

This has become a very serious issue for me and makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong.

Hi Derry,

Re: Re: On Science

If this is not a generalized problem, and is hitting in so many ways as to appear almost random, then you have likely isolated the problem.

It has all started since a) I acquired my new computer b) I switched from Win 98 SE to XP Pro.
c) I switched defrag programs. The latter is easily tested, and you have many XP users, so that may very well be pointing at a).

The problem is how in the blazes do I check out a). Well one way is to go back to my other computer for awhile before I go screaming down to the shop. I don't want to do that until I'm reasonably certain that is where the problem lies.
I have talked to them and I'm not convinced they could isolate the problem faster if they can at all given their testing methods. (They like things to fail completely.)

Questions start coming to mind such as what other programs was I running concurrently and so forth.

A cheery day indeed,
Muzz

I am a pleased user of the steadily improving Webspinner but thought I would give Web Engine a try.
My OS is Windows XP Home Edition [up-to-date] and pc. is P4.
I found WE hung frequently, shut down often with error messages with any number of 'Error Submissions' to dear old MS.
I cannot be any more constructive, I'm afraid, as I uninstalled WE, but it might indicate something.

Hi tudorean42,

Which version of Web Engine are you trying out? If you are trying out Engine, you really should try the V2 beta (you can download it from here - at the bottom of the page). If your Spinner V2 beta is behaving, then your Engine V2 beta should also. If it is the V2 beta that you are using then we definitely would like to get more info.

Hi Derry
I can't remember what version but in the light of your comments I'll give the 1.99T v2 a try as I might have been using the older v1 inadvertently

Hi Tudorean and Derry,

For the short while, I am going to replace "Web Engine Problem" with "System Problem" -- meaning Web Engine T + XP Pro + P4 Computer.

By switching back to version "R" and the AMD 500, I inadvertently discovered something. The process of embedding objects in the table as shown in the following (embedded SVG file)

http://members.shaw.ca/rrsknox/kftableb.html

has left the two object drop-down boxes with different contents. The files claimed by the table remain listed in the "top centre" drop-down box, but are removed in the "bottom left" drop-down box. Is this supposed to be the case???

I have also developed a System problem with a white stripe running down the right side of my published files regardless of whether I use relative or absolute co-ordinates. It is only solved by extending the boundary of the 800x600 background object to 900x600 and likewise with the embedded SVG file boundary.

I will investigate further with "R" because as far as I am concerned anything which repeats itself four times under general conditions has been established as "repeatable" on this "System."

I still think "T" is a sick Beta. I am experiencing absolutely no other problems with the P4 except with "T." I will wait out the important upgrades to Spinnaker, Derry,....but then hopefully it is Web Engine time.

Cheers,
RC

Hi Derry & Muzzy
Have installed the latest WE and in the few hours of simple, straightforward use, the prog. is working smoothly.
I look forward to trying some of the in-depth features during the following weeks

Hi Tudorean,

Great to hear good news about T. I have been plaugued, but am beginning to wonder about about my P4. In any case, to maybe tell you about the obvious, for an XP user SP1 has had numerous upgrades and, if the nomenclature is consistent, is now sitting at SP5.I suspect you know this but just checking.

Cheers,
Muzz

Hi Muzzy
Thanks for the info, although I only use the built-in update system and a check in 'add/remove' shows entries for SP1 and SP2[10 of those].
Probably a difference btween Home & Professional versions

Hi Tudorean,

I love English history. Great name.

I have been doing some benchmarking on my computer and the information always states SP1. I got the SP5 business from a Windows Update download.

So I guess I am using an upgraded SP1; sub-catecorgory "SP5" (or something!!)

Just in case I gave you a feeling of inferiority!!

Cheers,
Muzz
