All of a sudden, when publishing a new page with an image in it I get the error " cannot open target file error 5", with this and all subsequent pages. The pages are simple ones with a few lines of code, some links and a jpeg. The published pages open ok from disc, and appear fine, but there's no sign of the jpeg object in the target directory,

Hi John,
Can you clarify please. Do you get the error message from within the software when you are trying to Publish? What happens when you Preview? - Derry |

I get the message from within the software, preview is fine, but always an error from the publish dialogue, error 5 opening output file. Although the images I'm importing I've made the correct size before hand, I found last night that all went fine providing I changed the image size by 0.01% from within Spinner!

Hi John,
It sounds like it has something to do with the images you are using. Does this happen all the time, with all the images you import, or only with some? - Derry |

It may be the a problem with some of the images or it may be a more general 'file' problem.
That error ("Write File Error 5 opening output file:") means that Spinner cannot open or create the particular file in the 'Local Publish Directory'. So one possibility is that some of the files from a previous publishing have been set to read only so that the new files cannot replace them. To eliminate that possibility, go the your 'Local Publish Directory' and makes sure it is empty before publishing. You may also get this error if you run out of disk space in the Local Directory when publishing Another possibility might be that the file name is some how in conflict and cannot be created. Check the error message to see if there is any obvious problem with file name. Changing the file size may have helped in these cases if it caused Spinner to give the image a different name or if it made the images smaller and therefore used less disk space. If these suggestions don't help, why don't you copy and paste the contents of the 'File Transfer' box and send it to us at beta@virtualmechanics.com. We will see if we can spot the cause of the error. |

No files of the same name in the local publish directory, and no files read only. Plenty of disk space, I actually made the images larger not smaller. Only happens if I make no changes to the images when bringing them onto the page. Will let you know if it happens again.

OK, if it does, send us the ims file and we will look at it.
