I've found that SS is apt to crash frequently on Vista 32-bit. I am running latest Windows updates, and have also tried the obvious re-boot and stopping other apps/processes running so that SS is the only app running. It happens more when I'm trying to edit form properties. Error message says "SS has stopped running etc"

Think I resolved it by replacing the Submit button that I was using on the form. I isolated the crashing to each time I tried to edit the Submit button. Perhaps it had become corrupted. Deleted it, inserted new one, and OK now.
