Hi

I just downloaded and installed SS 2.90B.
I got the .dll issue and pressed continue as suggested and the installation completed.

When I go to start SS, I get a critical stop pointing at SS V2 with the message: 'This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.'

...well it doesn't! If I de-install and then reinstall 2.90beta then same deal. If I deinstall and revert to 2.70f all is well.

My pc is Win XP Pro SP2

Suggestions?

Thanks

There may be a clue there. I don't recall the .dll issue -- where is that discussed?

Hi Bruceee

Its to be found in purchase, registration and install questions sub forum...

http://virtualmechanics.infopo...6083534/m/5191039503

...it was in Nov 2008 and posted by derry...

A "IMSExtract.dll failed to register" error means that the file was in use during installation. You can safely ignore this message and 'continue' the installation (rather than ‘exit’ or ‘try again’).

Any help?

Thanks

If you installed from the .msi file (rather than the .exe) you may need some of the supporting system files.

Try downloading and running this: vcredist_x86

Let us know how you make out.

Hi Harpo

That worked just fine. I downloaded and installed the Visual C++ no prob, then the .msi which ran straight thru. I didn't get the .dll issue either.

What I did notice is that the context sensitive help files aren't present in 2.90a Beta. in for example Options/Project options is this correct?

If I wanted to run the .exe instead of the msi, is there a link for this you could suggest?

And... is there a change list for 2.90aB?

Thank you everso for your help.

Andrew

There will be when it is eventually released to the public. Since it is still in beta testing, I'm sure the change list is still changing.

I'm glad to hear it all worked out.

I'm not sure about the context help but I'll pass on your comment.

For the exe, I'm not sure now if it was actually released. I would stick with using the msi (and vc_redist when required) for now.

There is a readme.txt in the \bin sub directory (where the executable is) that has 290a to 290b changes.

Cheers,
Harpo

I notice that when I've opened and (accidentally) saved a project in 2.90aBeta, then it wont open in 2.70f as it says that it was amended with a newer version of the product.

Is there a way back?

Don't anyone mention backups (network failure)

Unfortunately not.

You can open older versions in the new, but they are not backward compatible.

When you opened the older version in the new, you should have received a dialogue that says

“Important! The project you are opening now was created with a older version of the program (version 2.7 or less).

If you save this project it will be saved I the new format. That means you will no longer be able to open it with older versions of the program.

If you need to be able to open this file with older versions of the program, be sure to make a copy of it before saving or save it with a different file name.”

Having said that, I think I recall Bruce coming up with some work around. If I am correct, he may be able to recall what it was.

...to save your project in the SS V2.70f format, use File > Save As. Then, after you set the file name, hold down Ctrl+Shift as you click the final "Save". You will then get an advisory message about being in diagnostic mode which you can accept. You should then be able to open your freshly saved project in SS 2.70f.
I save some of Bruce's pearls.

Fantastic!
You'd have to be told that, no way to spontaneously work it out or think 'what would happen if...'
Many thanks
