I am using SiteSpinner v2 trial version under Windows XP Pro SP1 on a P3 with 512 MB of RAM and ATI Rage 128 Pro video card. I am having the following problem with the horizontal (i.e. the top) ruler.

1. The cursor position line is not displayed, and it doesn't track the cursor position.

2. Can't set tabs, or the tabs set erratically. I managed to get two tabs set, one at 0 and one at 320, which I can slide around. But I can't seem to set another one.

3. If I click to set a tab, a spurious line appears on the ruler. I think this line is at the last place I clicked on the ruler, but no tab is set.

NOTE: The vertical ruler and tabs are working OK.

Feature request: It would be handy to be able to select a tab and then either type in the desired position or manually move it with the arrow keys.

Thanks.

Cheers!

Hi bag,

When you say trial version, do you mean the 'pre-release' or the one we posted yesterday?

The tabs seems to be working normally for us. A couple of questions:

1. Did they work before and stop or never work for you?

2. If you 'clear' the tabs, does that help?
(Menu: Options->Guide Display Options -> Reset All Tabs)

Feature request noted (good idea)

Hmmm,I guess I mean the "pre-release" because I did not download anything yesterday. Let me do that and see if the problem goes away.

You folks certainly are busy! :-)

Cheers!

OK, I downloaded and installed the "trial" version you posted yesterday and it seems to have cured the problem. Thanks.

BTW, I entered by WebSpinner serial no and registration code into SiteSpinner and it accepted it. Is that OK?

Thanks.

Cheers!

Yes, you are entitled to register SiteSpinner because you purchased Web Spinner V1 recently.

We will still post updates but now your SiteSpinner will not expire like the V2 beta's did.

It may be that one of your pre-release projects has the tab problem and everytime you open that project it sets your default to that tab state.

Try resetting the tabs.
(Menu: Options->Guide Display Options -> Reset All Tabs)

If it reappears, try to determine which project is causing it. Reset the tabs then re-save the project.

horizontal ruler problem. the vertical ruler still works fine, but the horizontal (top) seems to be stuk at the left hand side, it will not 'pull over' to make a tab, any previously existing 'tabs' cannot be removed without clearing all tabs, but then i canot put new tabs in, only the top ruler not the side ruler! can anyone please help as i realy need this, been using SS a few years now and am very used to its benefits including this valuable tab line that no longer works on ANY of my sites. Try reinstalling SiteSpinner. The latest version is V2.50f -- so this may also be a good opportunity to upgrade.

I am not sure what you mean by stuck at the left side. What is stuck? Can you describe that a bit more?

Are you seeing any message when you try to add tabs?

One thing to try is load one of the tutorials (menu: Help > Tutorials). Do the tabs work on those? If they do it means that something is wrong with the tabs stored in your projects. In that case, can you send us an example project that shows the tab problem?

Send it to vmsupport@virtualmechanics.com and put "Horizontal (top) ruler problems - SuziSunflower" as the subject.

say i click along the top line, the ruler shows at the left hand line about at measurement 10 outa the first 100 measurements, but it wont move on over to the right, it disappears when i try to release it further along the top line. the line does show, but wont budge from measurement 10, like its locked there or something, or like the project should only be 10 measurements wide. I dont have early version SS, its the latest one and has been working properly until this current prob. Tried the tutorial u sugested, didnt work. if i am to relode SS, will i lose all my current settings on current projects? or is there a way to save them if i were to reinstall? cos i have tuns of projects! strange prob eh! Harpo, thanx 4 yur help. Suzi

thanx Bruceee, i have latest version, not beta version and am stumped although been using SS over 2 years now! it just wont go beyond the first 10/100 , even tried new projects, restartin pc, deleting/reseting tabs, the left works fine, the one to place rulers horizontally over the page! just not the downwards (vertical) ruler!

You can safely reinstall SiteSpinner and not lose any of your current project settings. But just the same, make sure your projects are backed up to a safe place -- they should already be Wink

If a tutorial also shows the ruler bar problem, it indicates that the problem lies with your SiteSpinner or your computer -- done any Windows updates recently? Reinstalling SiteSpinner is an easy first step.

Don't cry, we'll get to the bottom of the problem.

One other thing to check:
In menu: 'Options' > 'Project Options' press the More.. button. Is the work space size set to 2047 x 6143? If it is not set it to that. If is it, set it to 1000 x 6243, press ok and confirm. The try the tabs.

Then put the work space size back to 2047 x 6143. Try the tabs. Any luck?

Be sure to leave the size at 2047 x 6143 after the test.

If that doesn't help send us a sample ims file (as described in my previous post) That will let us see if the problem is with your system or project file.

Just to summarize the problem:
  • Experienced user, so no finger trouble Wink
  • Happened after two years of trouble-free use
  • Happens with a blank project
  • Happens with an unmodified tutorial
  • Reinstalling SS did not fix it
  • Happens only on Suzi's computer
If I am correct in those facts, it points to some problem outside of SiteSpinner -- but just what is a real mystery. Suzi, if you want to play detective, try these tests:
  • Do you have other programs with the same kind of ruler bar -- do they work OK?
  • Try installing WebDwarf or WebEngine -- does the ruler bar work there?
  •
