Why don't my images look good? (Image Re-Rendering )
That kind of depends what you mean by "don't look good" but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The short answer is try turning on or off the 'Re-Render' option in the Quick Properties editor. The longer answer is: An image will be re-rendered under certain conditions and, if it is, it will use the image format (gif, jpg etc.) specified for the project. Some formats do not look as good as others. So you must either avoid re-rendering or choose a more optimal format. Here are the details: When an image is not re-rendered, the original image will be used as is. If it is re-rendered it will be re-created in your chosen format. The images will be re-rendered if you have the 'quick properties', 'Re-Render' option checked AND you modify the image ( eg. resize, rotate, skew or add transparency, contrast or brightness) If you have the re-render option turned off, then your image will not be re-rendered if you only resize. (If you rotate, skew, etc. the image it must be re-rendered regardless because HTML doesn't rotate etc. images. This does not apply in SVG) If an image is to be re-rendered it will use the format specified in the menu item 'Options'->'Project Options' under 'Default Image Format'. If you change this format and want it to apply to you existing images in the project be sure to press 'Apply to All Objects'. The GIF format in this release does not duplicate GIF animation when re-rendering. The GIF and PNG 8 formats will allow a maximun of 256 colors but have the advantage of allowing transparency when 'Render Background' is un-checked. PNG format has full colour but no transparency option. JPG will look good for photograph type images and be smaller but may look blurry for non-photographic images. BMP is not often used. It will look okay but be very large and may not show up on some browsers. If you set the 'Use Image's Format' option, then an image's original format (if it is PNG, GIF ,JPEG or BMP) will be used when re-rendering. That means that your GIFs will stay GIF and your JPEGs will stay JPEG and so on. Non-image objects (e.g. titles, rectangles) will still use the specified format. If you are using SiteSpinner or WebEngine, you can also set the format for an individual image with the Geometry Editor's 'Rendering File Format' option. Also note, if you are using the JPG format, the quality can be adjusted with the 'quality/size' slider in the geometry editor. The smaller the number is, the lower the quality and the smaller the file size will be. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Harpo, |
