Q: I try to install the software, but a) nothing happens, b) it crashes, c) it gives me some obscure message.
A: First, please check that you have the latest release of the software: http://www.virtualmechanics.com/downloads/. Once you have that, if you still have trouble, try the following steps. If you see a message saying the program is not Win32 or is 16-bit, see the solution here. If nothing happens after starting the installation or you see a brief window flash, the installer may be waiting for some other program to respond. (We have actually seen in this situation that if the installer is left for several hours it will eventually resume the installation) Make sure that you do not have any other programs running. Reboot your computer and try the install again. Also, try looking in the Windows Task Manager's Process tab for any instances of 'iexplore.exe' running. If you see any, shutdown Internet Explorer, and then 'End Process' on any remaining 'iexplore.exe' processes (in the Task Manager's Process tab). Then try the installation again. If you see any 'sitespinner.exe' processes in the task manager, try ending those and then try the installation again. Finally, the problem might be related to rogue adware processes running on your system. You may want to check your system with utility for finding Adware or Spyware. This message has been edited.
