Hi Harpo and Derry,
A masterful non-committment. "(Please keep the subject when replying to this e-mail) Hello, ... > But most of all, would you please clarify this whole issue for me once > and for all: Do you; are you; and, if so, by what means are you going > to support SVG animation? SVG is currently supported through the use of plugins. Implementing proper SVG support is a significant undertaking to say the least, so what will happen to SVG in Opera remains to be seen. Best regards, Haavard K. Moen Senior Technical Service Consultant Opera Software" You may safely assume that the matter will, in some fashion, continued to be pursued. Some support would be more than just welcomed, however. Anyone with an interest in SVG cannot afford to be apathetic on this issue. Do note that Opera will correspond with you, however ambiguous the response in this particular case. Thus it becomes an issue of numbers and a perceived market. VM may be waiting for the browsers to take the initiative. May I suggest that this is a two way street -- a feedback loop. Pioneer to the bitter? end, Cheers, Muzz |

Well D_L, ....I won't declare SVG dead; but it is suffering from malnutrition and is borderline comatose.
It is one thing to fight a tough fight, especially when the stakes are as worthwhile as the potential of SVG. But when you can't stare at your foe squarely in the eyes; when he skulks in blindness and is thus impervious to what his eyes should tell him is something special; then it is time to cease being a fool -- and an utter fool at that. Derry,
You may not enjoy or appreciate or even vaguely understand the method of my undertakings nor the source of my extreme bitterness over these various issues concerning SVG. Frankly I don't care. You either have a professional interest in this or you don't. That is your issue. I intend to seek clarification from Opera and other sources if possible as to just exactly what is going on. I may fail, and fail completely; but so what: at least I have the guts and initiative and persistence --- and most of all, keen enough insight to understand the implications of Opera's fence sitting and thus the need to keep on fighting for that which I value highly. I may be a jerk; but I go first class all the way. A quitter I am not. Muzz |

Hi Derry,
Thankyou; nor, may I suggest, will anyone ever say that I am not an honest man -- and forthrightly so. Very difficult to deal with at times and so forth; but honest. Which leads to the purpose of this post: I think that this column by John Dvorak in PC Magazine summarizes very accurately the problem I, or anyone in my position, faces in attempting to find the "truth" about certain subjects. And it is this which fuels my frustration and thus my anger. It isn't that the phenomenon is new to me -- 20 years in the oil patch took care of that part of my education -- but the contrast between the Internet of only 5 years ago and the Internet of today is absolutely discouraging. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1386150,00.asp Cheers, Muzz |
