Hello,

My time is extremely precious -- more valuable than gold. This should be kept in mind at all times in reading the following.

The primary purpose of a forum is to serve as a relatively neutral medium for discussion and debate. VM have thoughtfully subdivided this forum to allow for two basic formats: (a) succinct and to the point, and (b) as comprehensive as necessary to do the job properly.

As I have mentioned previously, I live across from the Alberta College of Art and Graphic Design. I have spent hours discussing the latter subject and am currently studying it as thoroughly as any formally registered student would. Accordingly I have no patience with dogmatism ["take the gun out"] or frivilous tripe.

A forum in the above context is not a love-in. If I ask for commentary on my work, then that is what I expect or at least hope for: profound, meaningful, insightful discussion -- constructive criticism included.

That means commentary with reasons, not arbitrary opinion lacking context. How exactly are we supposed to grow as designers if people are not honest with us in their assessments?

Thus is my response to the authority on what this forum is all about. Yes it is about developing VM products and helping people use the product: but at the end of the line lies a web-site. And THAT is ultimately what drives this forum.

It is a matter of bitter irony that although Web Engine is now one of the foremost SVG editors in the business; and that although SVG is well on its way to becoming one of the finest graphics design tools available; this forum is just about the last place on earth to find someone to discuss the subject with.

The majority of my efforts in support of SVG and VM will now be made in my home site which, based on past experience, offers much greater possibilities of profound and energetic discussions on the subject.

This has not been an easy decision, but is clearly a wise and necessary one. There will be the occasional visit, but...I now in deadly seriousness bid you adieu.

My respect for VM and its staff remains undiluted and it is my sincere hope that I may serve you well elsewhere in my own style --- a style which clearly is not welcomed here.

As to who will now carry the SVG torch in this forum, ....may there be some courageous pioneer with vision and a passion for the best that arises from D_L's masses.
