I thought I'd post this for general reading:

I've got 8 days left on my SiteSpinner Pro trial and have some thoughts that may be of interest.

I think there is a great need for "easy to use" mobile web authoring software solution. There are dozens of online solutions(mobisitegalore.com, swiftmob.com, etc), but they're all fairly limited with regards to design features and are a real pain in general due to slow server rendering of projects.

While Sitespinnerpro seems to be designed for "dual authoring", I find it too limited when compared to the Adobe solutions for web authoring (Dreamweaver, etc). I know there may be some discussion here but when you look at the latest version of Dreamweaver and the other solutions that integrate with it as well as hundreds of useful extensions, it's quite a tool though not as friendly to the beginner as maybe SiteSpinner Pro is.

The Mobile portion of Sitespinner however has some real promise and I think would be a great tool if a bit more development went in to it.

When I first built a site with Sitespinner, I just was interested in the mobile portion. My first attempt was a mess and validated "Bad."

My latest (same page as above) actually validates fairly well (Good) after making some "hand modifications" to the code...see example: Here

Several simple (I think) additions would be to be able to add image sizes to the code when publishing.
Insert correct Document Types. I used: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD XHTML Mobile 1.2//EN" "http://www.openmobilealliance.org/tech/DTD/xhtml-mobile12.dtd">

I also added a "cache" metatag, which was failing the origional validation.

The are some additional XHTML errors that I don't understand, but if those were solved, it would be a clean validating site.

Finally, the issue of redirecting. There are again, quite a few possibilities...php code, javascript, .httacces files, Device Atlas, and wurfl (http://wurfl.sourceforge.net/). I've tried several and was able to make them work without too much effort. The bottom line...one site that sends visitors to the correct set of pages. Many of the online authoring tools use the same solution for redirecting.

Finally, a reliable list of emulators. I've had to look all over the place to find them.

Taking the above ideas and integrating them into a Mobile Authoring version of SiteSpinner Pro would offer designers a great, great solution for building simple reliabe sites that validate and afford the most freedom with regards to design. I've spent dozens of hours looking and short of the suite of Dreamweaver tools, found nothing of any use. I think they call that a hole in the market.

I've decided to buy a version of SiteSpinner Pro as I think there's some great potential...not to mention the great support and quick response from other users and staff.

Hi Tom,

First off, thank you for taking the time to go through and list your findings and thoughts. I goal is to further refine SiteSpinner Pro so that it is a complete solution for building mobile sites, as well as standard desktop pages. As such we very much appreciate your feedback. All the points you have mentioned have been forwarded to development, and we are actively looking at alternatives for implementing what we can, as soon as we can.
