Dear,

I am using Site Spinner PRO 2.90d to build a website.

About this WebSite:
-One single project
-This web site will contain specific pages for Desktops + specific pages for Mobile devices

About the INDEX.HTML page
-I made one index.html with 2 different layouts – one for Desktops and another for Mobile devices
-INDEX.HTML layout for Desktop – I will add links to Desktop layout pages - all objects are set to ‘Exclude from Mobile Layout’
-INDEX.HTML layout for Mobile – I will add links to Mobile device layout pages - all objects are set to ‘Exclude from Desktop Layout’

In the Desktop – Internet Explorer
OK, no problem
The Desktop layout is displayed correctly
The Mobile layout is not displayed as expected

Problem: Using BlackBerry 8310
INDEX.HTML shows both layouts instead of showing only the Mobile device layout
It seems that BB is not considering the ‘Exclude from Mobile Layout’ setting
It seems that Desktop and Mobile layouts are combined

Questions:
-Why is this happening?
-Do you know a workaround?
-Can I add a code to inform BB browser that it should not display the Desktop layout? Is yes, would you please inform:
a) The code
b) Where should I include this code?

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this issue.
All the Best.

Hello developer_spinner,

The Blackberry 8230 browser has a bug, in that is does not recognize media types correctly, as you have discovered. We have heard that many Blackberry users use Opera mini for that very reason. Using a ‘mobile only’ page may be one way to get pages working in Blackberry’s native browser. We are looking at ways to improve the 'mobile only' output in SiteSpinner for the next update, which should be out shortly. Sorry we don't have a more positive answer.

I have made sites with site spinner and on the desktop version they look great, yet on the Mobile phone not so much.

I have tried with an I-phone and Blackberry, via Google on mobile and no success.

According to StatCounter's global stats (http://gs.statcounter.com/#mobile_browser-ww-daily-20080701-20090528-bar), iPhone and Opera browsers are by far the most popular, with Google's Android browser coming in at a distant 8th place.

Absolutly correct Larry, I completely mixed-up what I was saying.

The main problem is that using the Blackberry browser and/or using opera mini is currently not showing my site accurately. It is all broken up. What can I do?

Can you post a link to your site? I'm not strong on mobiles (don't even have one!), so would need to test using a simulator. What mobile screen resolution are you designing for?

Do you see this breaking-up effect (I'm guessing misplaced objects) in the mobile layout view?

Just looking at your page on a desktop, I notice that your banner is 480px wide which is too big for a 240 design width. Likewise for other objects at the top of the page. The horizontal line at the bottom of the page is also too big.

On your workpage (Mobile Layout tab, if you are using that -- but you seem to be using just a single layout), I suggest reduce the width of all those objects to 240px.

I don't know whether that helps, but let's hope it is a start.

Just FYI pureexpression. Checking out your site on Nokia E71 (Symbian browser) I can only see the server structure (Index of/ etc). it seems that index page is missing or published to another location.
