I'm trying real hard to get a handle on this program (SiteSpinner Pro) for just build mobile sites. I've been using Dreamweaver for the last 5 years and am comfortable learning new applications...but I'm lost.
My settings are: Project Options - Mobile Only 320x240 Separte CSS Files is UN CHECKED At the top I've got a 237 width .png banner image. I've added a block of text below it set to 10px fonts. When I preview, the text font isn't set to the correct size...no matter what I set it to. Also, my block of text is snug up against my banner...again, no matter where I positon the text block. If I make changes they don't show in my preview. The only way I can make things work is to check the box that says "Separate CSS Files." In another posting I was told to uncheck this do to issues with some mobile units rendering the site. Finally, on a lot of my changes, when I go to preview, the changes don't appear. Again, I'm only building mobile sites. The only way to get previews to appear is to save, publish, quit, and restart the application. Help anyon? |

Can you upload your .ims project file somewhere and post a link to it?
Might you have CSS positioning off for the problem text box? Also when you preview, if there are multiple pages involved, try the preview "All" option which builds all pages in the project. |

Hi torweb,
I see that you are publishing as 'Mobile Only'. Although it may not be exactly what you would expect, 'Mobile Only' means publish only the mobile layout but as a regular page. So, what that means in this case is that the mobile preview is showing a regular page that contains your mobile layout. When the preview browser is set to mobile view and detects a regular page it goes into small screen resolution (SSR) mode which basically ignores positioning and stacks the objects one on top of the other. It will also resize things to fit. For the preview to show the mobile layout, with positioning intact, when in mobile preview, it needs to see the mobile media type definition. To do that you need be in the Dual Layout using the ‘Combined’ publishing mode. We could add a way to publish only the mobile layout with only the mobile media type if that make sense for people. One consideration for you is: what do you want people to see if they view the page from a desktop browser? If you want it to be the same as what mobile viewers see, you would sync the desktop layout to the mobile one. Alternately, you could put a message like ‘Mobile users only’ in the desktop layout, or you could just leave it blank. On the question of changes not appearing in the preview, we have just discovered a problem with the latest Opera engine v.9.6x (which is what we use for our preview). It seems to be caching images for local files indefinitely and is not respecting cache commands. We are talking with Opera right now about how to fix this. Worst case we may have to revert to an older engine. I will get back to you here as soon as I have a fix or a workaround. Sorry if you are having a hard time with this but we are always listening and will makes changes if necessary to make it easier for mobile browser authors (and of course the same goes for any other interest groups among our authors). On another note: Derry is going to move this and a few other threads into the ‘Animation/Mobile’ forum. I am not sure how this will appear on your end but if you lose track of this thread. Just do a global search of the forums for “On another note: Derry is going to move this” (with quotation marks). |

Thanks very much for the detailed response. What I've been doing is clicking on the Preview All, which seems to give an accurate preview in a new window.
With regards to two sites, I have published client sites (dozens plus) that were all authored with Dreamweaver, Flash, and etc. I'm trying to provide an optional mobile page for clients and SiteSpinner Pro seems like a great solution. I've been working with a redirect script (I think I posted an example) that detects the browser/device and sends the visitor to the appropriate page. Here are a couple of links to that code: http://mobiforge.com/developing/story/lightweight-devic...ion-php#comment-4816 http://www.dpinyc.com/literature/resources/code-bank/ph...ht-device-detection/ I'm getting closer to a page that looks OK to me, which seems to look good on iPhone and other smaller screen mobile devices. The only problem I keep bumping into is how the pages looks in Opera Mini...bad vert space issues. Thanks again and I'm sure I'll be posting more |
