Hello,

Several years ago, I was using SiteSpinner and put it aside. Now I am starting to use it again. I downloaded the trial of WebEngine, and the product comparison shows that a major difference between the two products is DHTML.

When I looked in Wikipedia under DHTML, it said that DHTML has cross-platform capabilities and is being replaced by AJAX (whatever that is). Does anyone have any information about these issues and how useful it is to upgrade to WebEngine (which I am inclined to do)?

Hi Alan

Good to see you back! I use Webengine rather than SS only because I usually have animation in one form or another on my sites.

My understanding is that dhtml is dynamic html, including various forms of CSS, Javascript, animation etc that you can combine on the one project.

I have been reading about AJAX in the last couple of weeks. My understanding of that is that this is a package that enables you to change part of your webpage, and just upload thatthat part of the page that you have changed. It does seem to be coming with it's problems though. It is being developed in the USA and there have been many 'bugs' uncovered so far. While you upload a page that you have changed a 'part' of, it then disables the 'back' browser button that most people commonly use.

There have also been reports of blank pages being uploaded and all content lost. I read about this in a UK based webdesigner magazine, maybe someone over the pond would know more about it.

As far as I am aware it isn't a done and dusted package. Someone may know more about it. For all the time it takes to amend your page and upload one page you have changed, I think I would be waiting till it was more developed and tested before I would consider it!

Stick to Webengine for your dhtml, publish your project, put the kettle on, when you come back it will be uploaded with no problems (hopefully!)

AJAX is the latest buzz-word for DHTML driven websites. There is a lot of hype around it, but basically it stands for the technology to create interactive web sites (which you have always been able to do with Web Engine).
