Well, it's not as if the two programs were that different from each other. One just has features the other hasn't.

Interesting view point. We'll see what happens.
Now that I have designed the web site using SiteSpinner(non-Pro), I guess I am not a pro until I use the Pro version, SS has me hooked into the program. I can not use a standard html program to edit. So, I can ot use different software unless I choose to redesign the web site.

I will spend an extra $50 on elements of an updated program that I can not utilize.

So, the choice is, stay with the old sitespinner or move on to software that will update but keep back versions.

Hi Folks,

Just to clarify things, we fully intend to continue to develop SiteSpinner, SiteSpinner Pro, and WebDwarf. As new standards arise they will make their way into the different products as they are released. Standard functions for building and maintaing pages will be incorporated into all the tools. As for what might be in one tool over another, the Pro version would have more functions intended to extend the range of the product - in this case the ability to create interactive animation, and sites optimized for mobile devices. If you don't need that functionality, then by all means continue to use SiteSpinner.

Just tried out the new PRO version and I gotta tell you that i LOVE LOVE LOVE the preview button! Especially the 800,1024, etc. Now I can see what my site will look like at different resolutions. YEAH! That alone is worth the price of admission.
Thanks!

Derry, can we get some kind of eta (or rough estimate) on when a new version of Sitespinner might arrive, which incorporates some of the features seen in the Pro beta?

Reactor,

Can't give you any ideas on updating SiteSpinner as our focus at the present time is SiteSpinner Pro. Once we have that out the door we should have a better idea as to updates to our other products.

I've found a problem with the way that text is rendered compared to WebEngine 2.

I found that a page which gives a correct layout using WE2 has some of the text superimposed on other text when the page is created in SiteSpinner Pro. This is as viewed by either the built in preview or by IE7.

Have a look at

www.braille.org.uk/braille.html and

www.braille.org.uk/test/braille.html

The former is a page on my web site created using WE2 and the latter is created by SSPro, both using the same project file.

The project file can be found at

www.braille.org.uk/test/magray.ims

The big question is, which is correct? If SSP is correct, how do I alter my layout in SSP to give the correct layout when viewed by a browser?

Cheers,

Ray D

So--is it that any useful new features will go to PRO, which we will have to shell out another $50 for, in order to not use the animation bells & whistles we already don't use?

That in order to get the option to preview using other browsers (the only change that sounds useful for my needs) I have to forego SS, learn a new program, redesign my sites, and pay extra?

Explain to me how that benefits me.

Are you trying to divest yourselves of the SS basic users? It sounds like the animation group had a coup and is holding the non-animation folks hostage. Those of us who don't want to make our sites look like video games are being left behind, is that it? I am truly sorry to see that happen, I had really trusted VM/SS.

I shouldn't worry too much Paradisi, I've been using WebEngine beta for about 5 years and have watched as SiteSpinner has been upgraded and WebEngine has remained basically static so I could just as easily voiced your concerns in reverse. The work on WebEngine is a well overdue update to a product that I hope will eventually go into version 2 production. In my experience VM do not indulge in commercial skulduggery.

fmcs: Registered users of SiteSpinner can purchase WebEngine (SiteSpinner Pro) at 50% off the regular price. To do that, contact us, and include your SiteSpinner Serial Number (available in SiteSpinner under Help > About).

BruceM: SiteSpinner Pro - like SiteSpinner - works under all flavors of Windows, from Windows 98 on.

Paradisi: We fully intend to further develop and support both products. WebEngine has more advanced functionality - such as Interactive Animation, formating for Mobile sites, ext, that are not needed by everyone. If you are happy with SiteSpinner, then you do not need to upgrade to WebEngine.

Derry,

Thanks for the clarification re operating systems.

When I install on a PC running windows ME the installation appears to go fine . . . however, the desktop shortcut does not show as a icon and if it is selected I get the message "Windows cannot run this program because it is in an invalid format" . Th e program in question being bin\SiteSpinnerProV2.exe .

I have tried uninstalling, downloading again and re-installing but get the same result.

Any thoughts?

Bruce

Hi Derry,
I just downloaded the SiteSpinner Pro Beta 4.
Really nice with the new Preview button.
How come that the version number is as high as 2.90 when it still is Beta 4?
I just thought of the WebEngine (SiteSpinner Pro)free upgrades as long as it is v2. It seems so close to v3 already!

I have wondered the same thing lately, I really enjoy the product, but would hate to have to pay another 50 bucks before it goes out of Beta.

Whew! And thank you.
I am happy with SS and can't envision utilizing much of the interactive/animation things; not against them, happy for others to have them, just didn't want SS to be cast aside in favor of them. (The same way I would be devastated if my favorite seed catalog quit carrying its lovely herb & flower selection in favor of only vegetables. More choice is I think always better!)

Webman/Aaron,

Not to worry, the version numbers are just a hold-over from WebEngine. V2 is what we are focusing on. Having said that, there will be a V3 release at some point, as well as a V4, V5... but that won't be until we have fully recuperated from getting V2 out the door Smile
