Hoping this is the right place to post this question. I've poked thru the FAQs and this topic seems closest.

In a recent newsletter I received in email, there was an upgrade to SSPro. I had version 2.50f, which I misread as meaning I needed to purchase an upgrade. I paid the $50 and proceeded to download.

However, I must have missed an upgrade somewhere along the way, and I'm being told to upgrade first by removing the old SS and then reinstalling, only after backing up documents etc.

My question is, if this is a free upgrade, how can I get my $50 back? Do I contact SS, VM or Plimus Sales?

Hello Kayelle,

The way I understand it, if you had version 2.50f, that would have been Site Spinner standard. The $50 you paid to upgrade to SS Pro is a special (1/2 price) discount for registered SS Standard customers. Once you have installed SS Pro, you can register that with the details sent to you from your $50 purchase.

SS Pro is a free upgrade for registered Web Engine customers. Also, once you have registered SS Pro, all upgrdades to the current version are free.

As far as uninstalling SS before installing SS Pro. Although it is suggested (you probably won't need it again, and only takes up disk space), it is not really necessary. I have SS versuin 2.70f, Web Engine and SS Pro all still running on my computer (mainly for tsting comparisons etc) and all still work fine.

I hope I understood your question okay.

Regards,
Terry

There have been a number of free upgrades from Web Engine to SiteSpinner Pro.

However to upgrade from SiteSpinner 2.50f (basic) to SiteSpinner Pro has never been free. The uninstall instructions you mentioned applied to the SiteSpinner change from 2.50 to 2.70 (change of project file structure) -- and that upgrade was free.

So maybe you paid for the upgrade from SS to SSPro, but actually downloaded the SS upgrade from 2.50f to 2.70f? If so, try SSPro -- you'll probably find it worth the extra $50.

Ok, so I misunderstood. Web Engine will now be called SSP but incorporates the familiar SS aspects I've come to love. I should have paid the extra $50. That was my concern - that I had paid for a free upgrade, but it appears I did not, so I'm cool with that. Thanks to both of you who answered.
===

Another question - My C drive is very low on memory but I have a gargantuan F drive. I've already moved every single thing to F except my files for the website, and any programs that have to be on F in order to run.

Will I be able to keep the old SS if I'm able to put SSP on drive F?

Also, I'd love to move my massive amount of website info from drive C to drive F without breaking links all over the place.

I ask because I didn't know how to move my iTunes music properly and just dragged all 700 songs over to the other drive and told iTunes to send new downloads there. I had to manually tell it to find every single song. >_<

I don't want to do that with my website. I've built it up over the years, adding cool sections to go along with my various books, and have over 130 pages.

I need to weed out old suff on my server. I'm reaching the end of my TCT (technological-capability tether) and have started looking for web masters who can handle the huge site and not go cross-eyed when I want to add another section. So far, I've paid for services from two people who meant well, but dropped out when they saw the complexity (or my tangled mess, more likely.) ^_^ Apparently, I have looked in the wrong places, and believe me, I asked for references and recommendations before I even approached either of them. The difference is that I asked for picks from other authors, all of whom have websites with maybe 7 pages.

That won't work for me. I immerse readers into the culture, take them shopping on the Imperial Internet, let them visit the art galleries created by my various cover artists, and the businesses mentioned in the book -- like the online menu of the Jade House, a favorite steak place for one character. They can also tour the empire and visit each world, and I'm working on two series; one about various rock groups owned by a specific company, and another about 5 "brothers" who were tutored by the same master thief and hold high levels in the Thieves' Guild.

Any suggestions on where I "should" be looking for web help?

Appreciate your interest and hope someone has an idea that will help.

In the meantime, Happy New Year and all the best it can bring.

There shouldn't be any problem in migrating your whole site to a new drive. As you probably won't have the same image file paths on the F drive, expect your images to be missing to start with. However the "New Dir" command (Geometry Editor) can fix that quite easily. If you have used [file] type links, you will need to manually adjust those -- no problem if there aren't many of them.

You could migrate SiteSpinner too -- uninstall from C: and install on F:. Now that you have SiteSpinner Pro, you really don't need the old SiteSpinner as well on the new drive. I'd just leave it on the C:drive and let it "fade away".

I have nothing of value by way of advice to offer you unless you could use a little empathy. I also have left a huge mass of bits and pieces of cyber junk lying around that I don't know how to get rid of. And while finding folks who claim expertise locally is easy, I have not yet found anyone who even understands what I am trying to do. On the other hand I won't have any trouble recognizing someone that can help because they will have a lot of stuff already on the web that fits my needs. Thank god or in your case your favorite avatar for brucee. Good luck, Jim
