I am not a registred user...yet Smile. I would like to try the 15 day trial though. Is there another way I can get it? Or will this require a re-installation of my XP operating system? Hopefully there is an easier way...

Hi,

I have downloaded SS V2.7 to a separate folder, just to take a look! (am continuing to use v2.5f) and I have noticed that firstly the V2.7 takes over the look of v2.5f (I like to move the ‘tool’ bars from their ‘defaulted’ position) when I do this, which I have done before on previous upgrades! – these re-positioned tool bars do not ‘stay’ in the position I gave them i.e. they revert back to ‘default’ – which is not what I want at all!

As I have said, it has happened before – and ‘you’ have been able to correct my problem with a further upgrade.

This maybe because I have both versions running at the same time! – but maybe not!

Or maybe I am doing something wrong - any help would be good.

Many Thanks

Thanks for the new release. The resizing of web projects now sticks when the ims file is saved and re-opened...

Just noted a quirk, however. If you click on the magnify icon and enlarge a page, the mouse cursor relocates down on the page. Eventually the cursor jumps to the lower-right corner of your screen when enlarging.

O_Pablo - can't see any reason on our end why you might have received that error message - can you try again and let us know.

Jadon - not sure if you were able to resolve the problem. However, we are about to update Tucows with the full installation. Once they post it you can download directly from there.

broughton - SiteSpinner 2.7 is meant to replace SiteSpinner 2.5. So if you switch back and forth between the two you will see some anomalies.

In particular with respect to toolbars, 2.7 includes toolbar options which do not exist in 2.5. The 2.7 saved settings may be misread by 2.5 which then may write data that 2.7 does not understand.

Also keep in mind that SiteSpinner saves its toolbar settings when it is shutdown. So, for example, if you have open 2.5 and 2.7, then make a change in 2.7 and close it, then close 2.5, the 2.7 changes will be overwritten.

Once you are ready to use only version 2.7 (or only 2.5), any changes you make to the toolbar should be remembered the next time you open SiteSpinner. If this does not happen please describe exactly what you see and what you did to see it.

mojo - you can't automatically create a drop-shadow, though you can still create one manually - please see the FAQ on that here

Richard - OK, passed that on to the Development Team.

Wow. Thank you so much for this! This could almost have been a 3.0 release, IMO.

I just found out about it, but within the first few minutes of checking it out, I already love these additions...

- Pressing the mouse-wheel button will put the mouse-wheel into zoom mode
- Page list order can sorted by user.
- Form Editor
- The ability to create drop-down navigation menus

And I don't see it mentioned, but I can now see the full name of each of my pages!! Yay!! My website has several pages like 'erichermanmb01.html' 'erichermanmb02.html', etc. and all I could see before was 'erichermanm' which could have been a dozen different pages.

Very cool. Thank you again.

Hi Derry,

I have now deleted V2.5f (firstly saving my files) and have installed V2.7 - now, I am still having a problem with my 'workspace' area - as I said before, I wish to move the tool bars to different postions!

So, when I click on the desktop 'shortcut' - V2.7 opens and shows me the toolbars in the default position together with the 'spintut'(copy) page - now, no matter what I do! i.e. re-positioning - getting rid of the 'spintut'(copy) page etc.. after shutting down the system - then re-opening - the toolbars and the 'spintut'(copy) page always appears!

Am I doing/not doing something here? - please advise.

Cheers

Thank you thank you thank you Cool !!!

I have a few questions about SAVING the project and files before uninstalling the 2.5f version:

1. Saving Project File .ims: where to locate this file ?

2. I guess it's the same as publishing the whole project to the disk? should we create a new folder ?

3. about saving two files: ftppro.ini and urllist.htm - where exactly to find them ?

Thanks!!! Cool

Hi again Derry,

Any info when the emails will be sent?
I might seem a bit hasty but I have already installed version 2.7 and I know that projects that are saved with that version can't be opened with version 2.5 anymore.
Because I have spent a lot of time with my current projects, I don't want to save them in new format before I have a copy of the software to edit them. This is a principle I have with every software I use. I hope you understand my point.
On the other hand I'm reluctant to remove version 2.7 because it has many new nice features.

just an additional question/confirmation to my previous question:

Is it enough to backup/copy "MySite" folder to a different location before uninstalling 2.5f ?

C:\Program Files\Virtual Mechanics\SiteSpinner V2\MySite

Thanks!

The only really important files are your .ims files. The "MySite" folder in the "Program Files" is the default publish destination file, at least in my installation. I'm not sure how it happened, as I knew nothing about SS or computers when I started, but my .ims files ended up in "My Documents". Those are the ones to back up. (However, if you "auto backup" when you publish, there will be a copy of the .ims file in "MySite" also).

The .html files in the "MySite" folders can be easily recreated with a mouse click, but they aren't of much use if you lose your "blueprint" .ims files.

I hope that helps, if I'm in error, I hope someone will set me straight. Smile

Thanks Phil The CowBoy Wink

Yes, my "MySite" folder contains the file with my Project, which is .ims file. It's only about 120k.
I guess the best is to copy it to another
location ? the same with the folder with images..

Or maybe better to copy the entire "MySite" folder?
And how to you recreate the html files ?

Try re-installing SS V2.70 on or after the first of May and before the fifth. Big Grin

There is a bug in the installer which means that on startup, SiteSpinner thinks it is a first-time install, even when not, so reverts to default toolbar positions and startup tutorial.

This bug affects countries which use dates in reverse format, dd/mm/yy, instead of the US style mm/dd/yy. Installing on a different date could (in theory!) fix it. A registry patch is also possible, but I'm guessing you don't want to tangle with that Smile

The .html file is created every time you "publish" your page or pages. The auto-backup seems to back up the entire .ims project whether you publish one or all of your sites pages. The .ims file is the only one you need to save. And don't forget, if you upload it along with your .html files to your host every time you make changes to your site, you'll have an emergency back up copy there, too.

My experience with installing, removing and repairing SiteSpinner many times is that it does not touch your projects.

So if you fail to backup your .ims project files, no harm should befall you Smile

As Phil said, your .ims project files are the really important ones, so you should always backup those to a safe place in any case.

Hi Bruceee,

Many thanks for that! - I have now 'restored' my system back to v2.5f and got rid of v2.7! - it was full of 'Bugs' anyway - I won't go there again for a long time.

Cheers

I think like any new release we should wait at least one month until all the problems clear out.

Shouldn't it be a Beta release, anyway ?

I'm aware of only two confirmed bugs in SS V2.70. Maybe it should be a Beta. All serious software has bugs, and if you don't want to be a pioneer, as you say, it is wise to wait a while before taking the plunge.

For me, there are enough neat new features to justify the risk. And there's always these forums -- if you get stuck with something, you are not alone.

Yeah, right Smile If you're missing out on something good, how will you know? Wink
