I need help for this!
My website was ruined by the sitespinner update. First thing my head on all my pages was smeared competely. My frontpage is back to february. Some components though is visible from later update I have made lots of new things the past two month. I can see on the ims file on the server that it was updated april 29. my last update. even when I download this, lots of thing are gone. I have not uploaded since. So my website is intact, but I can't do anything now that my workspace is back to february. Can I reconstruct this? Can I download my webpage? can anyone help? Thans in advance. Still I think that Sitespinner great! http://michaelsimonsen.com |

squiddenm, you might have the same problem that I had. In the previous version of SS, when I published my site, it automatically put all of the image links as pointing to an 'image' subfolder (ex. www.website.com/image/image.jpg), so I would have to upload all of my images seperately to that folder.
Yesterday, when I did my first website update with 2.7, I checked and all of the images were screwy or missing. This time it published all of the image links to the same directory as the pages (ex. www.website.com/image.jpg). So I just had to upload all of my images to the main directory and then it was fine. Hopefully that's all you need to do. But I'm not sure why that would have changed, or if there's some way we can change how that works. I actually prefer it to not go to an image folder (as it is now), so as long as I know that, then I'm happy. |

That's why I didn't rush to download the new version, although I was very excited.
And I also had a feeling that the version should be out, while being on another website. So i went and checked. The VM team should have offered this version for testing first, as a beta version. It doesn't matter anyway, because everybody who went ahead and downloaded, became Beta testers. IMO, we all have to be greatfull to these guys! |

Just to clarify, SiteSpinner V2.7 has 2 confirmed bugs as Bruceee has pointed out. Neither of those bugs will interfere with any of your work in any way. In fact, a large part of the work done on this release was addressing issues in 2.5, so if you are concerned about anomalies, 2.7 is a much better bet.
Broughton - we are aware of the date issue. However, if there is another 'bug' in the software, please tell us about it and we will look into it immediately. squiddenm - SiteSpinner V2.7 would not corrupt existing project files in any way. If you add to existing projects it will update them, but it would not 'ruin' a project. If you have Project file on your webserver from April 29th created with V2.5, then you should be able to download and work with that file. If you cannot, send us an email to vmsupport@virtualmechanics.com with the location of the file and we will take a look at it for you. Shazbot - SiteSpinner automatically puts different types of objects into different folders. The default folder for images is indeed the 'image' folder - this has not changed from V2.5 to V2.7. You can change where objects are put to anything you like by going to the Publisher > Pages tab > Path Options, and clicking the 'Sub-Folders' button. lazal - This is not a 'beta', and as mentioned above has many less issues that the previous release had - at present only 2 that we are aware of. We have been working with this release for quite some time (virtualmechanics.com was created with this release) and find it much more stable and easier to work with than V2.5. However, if you really don't need the new features and functions, then you can stay with what you have. But as Bruceee has pointed out, you may be missing out on a lot of great new stuff. - Derry |

MonoMan - if you are registered user you can go to Help > Check for updates. This will take you to a link that you can download the full file from.

Are you sure it hasn't been changed, Derry? I never once went into that sub-folder area before so it must have been defaulted to that in 2.5, but I just checked in there in 2.7 and there's nothing in the box next to any of the items, which is why it sent image links right to the main directory. As I said, I prefer it that way so I'm leaving it blank, but it was definitely set up different from 2.5 or it wouldn't have done that, eh? Best, Shaz |

Hi again!
Thanks for your quick responses. Well I seem to have found the ims file, but not on the server. It can not have been caused by the V 2.7.I realize. I'm puzzeled that the ims file on the server does not contain the newest update. But i'm certainly no expert. I just uploaded my front page and it went OK. Now I just have to correct the smeared heads no my other pages. IM STILL A SPINNER FAN! Michael |

Hi Derry,
Other ‘Bugs’ I have found (at least I think they are classed as bugs) are, when I used the new ’Page list position’ - all worked very well, I re-positioned my pages (75 of them) and was very pleased! - However when I went to ‘FTP’ either a single page i.e. the one I was working on, it (the V2.7 software) decided to offer me another page to upload (presumably the page that had that original position in my original page list! The other ‘bug’ is more annoying than anything else! – this is when the user (me) picks a tool a dialog box pops up to the effect ‘Did you know’ etc.. – And if I did not want to see this box anymore I was to ‘check’ the box below - this I did! - But every time I used the said ‘tool’ again the same box appeared – with the same message! There were a few more – but I ‘lost the will to live’ and at this point I was very disillusioned - what with the ‘date’ issue and then these bugs, I decided this upgrade was not for me and reverted back to v2.5f - maybe one day when all the ‘bugs’ been ironed out (isn’t that the ‘techies’ job? Not the users?) before the release? Cheers |

Is the ability to use links within the workpage gone altogether or have i misplaced it?

Broughton - Sorry you had such a hard time of it. As is sometimes the case, a relatively simple error can appear dramatic is certain scenarios.
All the bugs you describe, except one, are not actually bugs but they are all related to the installer date format bug. That is, on your version of Windows, with your regional settings, and on the date you happened to install, a bug caused SS to mis-interpret the installation date as a date in the future and therefore act as if each time SS was run it was the first time. So what ended up happening was SS reset all the settings to 'first install' settings each time it was run. That includes showing the tutorial, resetting the tool-bars, resetting the tool-tips and probably several other things. The 'publisher page order' issue , though not technically a bug, does sound like a poor choice (or oversight?) by the developers to use the internal page order (as was done in version 2.5) rather than the new user selected page order from 2.7. We will investigate that and correct it as soon as possible. Just so you know, we do test everything as much as we possibly can both internally and with external beta testers before release but there will always be things that are missed. Sometimes they will be simple things that you (and we) would have expected us to catch. But just to give you an idea of the complexity of testing, using the installer date bug as an example: There are at least six version of windows (win95, win98, winME, winNT, win2000, winXP) not to mention all the service packs for each (say 2 each on average), There are well over 100 different regional settings (which affect the date format) not to mention user's customized dates. And of course there are 365 different possible installation dates in a year. If you multiple all those (6x100x2 X 365) it is 438,000 combinations. And that is just one single test (the installation date check). So you can image that testing all features, functions, menus and buttons, templates and tutorials, in all situations, can to be get quite a large undertaking and it does leave open the possibility for an error. Next time we be be sure to make it clearer, that the first releases are first releases and that people may wish to wait if they feel they are happy with their current version. Having said that 2.7 contains at least 250 bug fixes and improvements that are not in version 2.5, So we are very confident that version. 2.7 is a better version overall than 2.5, the teething pains not withstanding. We do of course, as always, promise to fix these, sometimes vexing, first release bugs and update the release as soon as we possibly can. Shazbot - nope, that functions was not changed in any way, and has been there for a while (all of www.virtualmechanics.com was built with that function, and then rebuilt with the latest release). If you change it for a specific Project, then that project will hold the same settings. lazal - maybe squiddenm - well, still being a SiteSpinner fan is the important thing... Rene - its still there (the new Tutorials use it). Its in the Object Editor > Link tab. - Derry |

Derry, I think you must be misunderstanding what I'm saying, so I'll show you what I mean... I uninstalled 2.7, and installed 2.5 again. Here's the picture of 2.5 - Then I completely uninstalled 2.5 and installed 2.7 again. Here's the picture of 2.7 - As I said, I had never once used that screen before, so all of my images had to go into the 'image' folder on my server, but with 2.7 the first time I updated my site all of the pictures were screwy or missing because it wasn't sending the links to that 'image' folder anymore. I think you'll need to change that back to how it was in 2.5 or other people are bound to have the mess that I did until they realize that they either need to change that themselves or upload every image file to the main part of their server (which is what I did). But that is definitely different between 2.5 and 2.7, at least on my installation. Best, Shaz |

I think Shazbot may be right. I just checked the settings for SS V2.70 on this computer, and they are blank for each profile.
To correct it, it is just a matter of clicking the 'Set Defaults' button -- this does seem different from SS V2.50. |

Hi Derry,
'Well' what a very detailed explanation! - many thanks for that! - although I was frustrated at the start of using v2.7 - I know I will use it eventually - my comments were meant to be a bit tongue-in-cheek though!!! Cheers |

Can you web cam the flogging so we can all watch?
I had a good chuckle to myself the other day when a friend of mined purchased another web authoring program. I told him what a mistake he had made and described how easy Site Spinner is. "No no" he said... "My one has had a good review" "Ok" I said. "But I have used that one too and it is rubbish" So I left him to it. Guess what... after he was struggling with his program I stood over him while he downloaded SS 2.7 trial.. and showed him how to use the basics. He was impressed.. and bowed his head realising he had wasted his money. There's a moral to this story somewhere.. when I think of it I will post it ---------------------------------- I ain't no expert! http://www.apgraphx.co.uk http://www.streamlinetaxis.org http://www.ridingportugal.com http://www.adele-academy.co.uk http://www.royalekitchens.co.uk http://www.bristolstreamlinetaxis.com |
