I notice a new popup for registering sitespinner and webengine after installation. Does this mean V3 is in the works? Wink

Question...

Why the change from downloadable msi to an EXE downloader?

Are we no longer suppose to archive the version of our software for later install should we get a new pc or have a crash?

It seems that if we back up this new "SetupSiteSpinnerV270f.exe" version all we are backing up is a link to the net. That means that years later the file location may have moved or been removed and we will not be able to install it at that point?

Not to mention that the download/install is slow for us still on dial up.

Just curious.

Thanks,
LokiZ

You still have the .msi file as well. As you note, the .exe part is the downloader and is quite small. If you want to repeat the install at a later date, you need save only the .msi file.

After you do the install, look in your temporary internet files folder -- the clearly named .msi file is there. It is a system file, and hidden too, so if you use Windows search to find it, make sure you specify those attributes.

Thanks brucee I totally spaced the fact that the MSI would be a hidden file. All of the other msi were not as I downloaded them from a link directly I guess.

Thanks again, make me feel much better about the upgrade now.

EmmieShadow,

The new Registration screen is so that we can keep customers notified of updates, if they want to be notified.

Hi fellows and ladies.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but are SiteSpinner V2.70 'f' and Web Engine V2.00 'N' both compatible with Vista Ultimate now?

Do I have to run as admin on both or is that not needed anymore?

Thanks Smile

Regards,
Hardhead

I'm not a Vista user but...

These programs should now be compatible with all versions of Vista.

I'm not sure about the admin. You shouldn't need it to run the programs, but it might help while you are installing for multiple users. Someone else may know for sure...

I just recently purchased a new computer and installed both SS and WE on the computer with Vista Home Premium without any problems. I had no problems with installation or with operation of either program.

Is there a post of changes that come with the upgrade? Release notes?

Yes, check the "readme.txt" file that installs in the Virtual Mechanics\SiteSpinner V2.7\bin folder. There is an equivalent for Web Engine and Web Dwarf.

Are there release notes we can take a peek at before doing the download, to decide if we want it? (Is this mostly just for Vista users?)

'Cause things are working pretty nicely now, can't say I'm missing anything (except indents and vertical alignment buttons for text Smile)

From the readme.txt file:
Changes for SiteSpinner Release 2.70f May 3, 2007
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIXED:	Mouse effects within groups may trigger an unexpected mouse effect.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changes for SiteSpinner Release 2.70e April 17, 2007
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIXED:	Pasting plain text of a 'page' type link into text editor may cause a crash, when
opening the link editor, if the linked page doesn't exist in the project.

CHANGED:Mouse selection of objects will now select the topmost object under the mouse
pointer even when a lower object has been selected previously. If an object is
completely behind another object's rectangle you can hold the SHIFT key down to
select it (as before). To move a SHIFT selected lower object, move it with the
mouse before releasing the mouse button or use the keyboard keys.

FIXED:	Mouseovers FX do not align with objects in IE7 zoomed mode.

CHANGED:Code object are now sized (vs. scaled) when stretched using the mouse

CHANGED:Pasting as plain text in text objects now uses the formatting of the text where
the insertion occurs. (was using Courier 10pt)

CHANGED:Added online option to registration screens

FIXED:	Installer's 'just me' option does not create startup icons if installing as
		limited access user in Vista.

FIXED:	Extended characters (umlauts etc.) inside text link's titles in [page] type
		links are displayed incorrectly

FIXED:	Preview file type association dialog doesn't work in XP SP2 or higher

FIXED:	'Find' command in code view not always scrolling to the found text

CHANGED:Removed horizontal scroll bar from code view (because text is always wrapped)

FIXED:	Splash screen stays visible for a some seconds after program is ready if
'tip of the day' is turned off

FIXED:	Pasting text into a code object should remove any rich text formatting

FIXED:	Editing a locked text object, that has been inadvertently scaled, may cause
the object to shift by 1 pixel when the text editor is closed.

FIXED:	Selecting all the text in a text object, from the button up with the mouse,
displays the 'end of text' font (which is not necessarily the same as the
selected font) even though the final selection does no longer includes the
'end of text' character. i.e the displayed font may differ from the selected
		font in this case.

FIXED	After pasting plain text in text object and then typing new text, the background
of the new text may appear in unexpected colors colors until the text object is
		saved and reopened.

FIXED:	If number of publisher profiles exceeds the maximum of 99, publishing may not work
		correctly.

CHANGED:Deleting a profile from the publisher profile list now selects the next profile
in list is selected (was selecting the last profile in the list)

FIXED:	Titles within tables may render parts of the table borders within the title area

FIXED:	Rtf files don't keep formatting when opened in text objects.

FIXED:	In IE7, a centered page shows a caret (text cursor) in central background area
		instead of default arrow

EXPERIMENTAL:
We have added some command to show or hide some of the outlines that only appear
in the workspace (e.g. a selected object's dashed outline). The idea is to give
a quick way to see the page without the extra lines that can be distracting when
trying to position objects on a page. Hopefully this will mean less previewing
of pages while laying out objects.

There are no menu or toolbar commands right now. For this test the commands are
		only activated by keyboard sequences.

Please let us know which commands you think are helpful. In a future release we
will add menu and toolbars commands for those commands that are deemed useful.
We will remove those that are not.

The keyboard commands are:

ALT+1 - show/hide all the outlines below (if they have not been hidden individually)

ALT+2 - show/hide the dashed outline on objects with outlines of 0px thickness
(e.g default text/code objects. WebEngine paths)

ALT+3 show/hide the 'selected object' dashed outline

ALT+4 show/hide the 'selected object' dashed outline and sizing handles.

ALT+5 reset all outlines to visible.

Remember you will not see the effect of a command unless you have a selected or 0px
	outlined object on your page.

The link in the first post of this thread takes you to an older version of SS -- 2.70c. [Edit 28 Oct 2007: The link on the VM site now takes you to the correct V2.70f version. The Download.com link will probably still be the old version]

I suggest instead use the product Help > Check for Updates, and hope that takes you to the latest version. That will work for registered users -- don't know about trial users though...

My version says it's just 2.70. Have I missed the updates?

Not sure what is happening but, I do remember Brucee from a few years ago. Glad to see you are still here.

But, a few years ago, it seemed as if I had sitespinner 2.7f and IMS V2 Beta. That is the release today! have they not upgraded? Or, am I missing something?

Bob
