Hi All,

I could use some help or advice. I'm in the process of adding a shopping cart to my site and there will be a size chart with description as well as an "add to cart", "view cart" and "go to checkout" buttons on the individual product pages. All of which i would like to have in the same position on all the pages. The include feature would be ideal since it would save a pile of time because I have a few hundred products. The problem being is with include when you change something on one page it changes the same on all pages. Is there any way to turn off that part of the include feature or is there any other feature that will accomplish the same thing as each page will have a slight variation of code or description. You can see an example of what I'm trying to accomplish here,

Thanks in advance,
Darryl

I don't know how correct it is but I have noticed that if I lock an object and then copy it from one page to another it is placed in the same position as the original object, you can try if it works for you.

Darryl,

I would follow Klimt's advice about locking down your objects so they do not change position.

However the include may not suit you best. Below I have included and image depicting some of the differences between the four copy options contained in SS's copy ability. You will either need to use SS's Copy or Clone method to enable the objects to be edited in the way you want to.

If I were you I would make a "blank" page setup with the bare skeleton of a product page outside of your actual website IMS file. Then anytime to need to add a new product to your site you can just append the page in and edit as needed.

Good luck!

Darryl,

Actually there is another way to get your 100's of pages populated with your base objects and ready for unique editing quickly, which I think is what you are looking for.

1) Create your 1st basic product page with all objects except maybe the image file of your product.
2) Create your 99 new blank pages (assuming you have 100 products.)
3) To quickly fill all your blank pages with your base content do a Ctrl+A (select all) then do a Alt+I (Include on...) Now check all pages you want to copy your base content to and click "OK"

Now all of your pages contain the base data (don't edit just yet...all objects are still chained together.

4) To break a page free from the clutches of the include and lock the base objects in place do this carefully... do a Ctrl+X directly followed by a Ctrl+V. (this breaks the include) Then do a Ctrl+A followed by an Alt+L (this will lock all base objects.)
5) You can now edit anything on the page without the fear of it moving or changing objects on other pages.
6) At this time you can import that beautiful product image and since it is not locked down you can move to where ever it looks best.

Repeat steps 4-6 on each product page. Steps 5 and 6 would have to be done anyway you look at it so the only thing added to what you were already doing I think is step 4. It's just a few simple key shortcuts so it shouldn't add to much time.

Added note: If while doing step four you get a big popup message from SS click cancel and try again. it is very important to do the Ctrl+x Ctrl+v back to back with nothing else done in between or SS just pastes a picture of the objects rather then the objects themselves. (we don't want that!)

Again good luck!

Very nice chart LokiZ, if you had one that showed the inverse, it would be a great addition to the Tips and Trick Forum

Well if this is what you meant by a chart showing the inverse feel free to download this version and use it as you see fit.

Always glad to be of help, and know that excel is our friend. The charts were made in excel a program I live and breath in at work. Works for lots of things, even nice graphic charts for the web. Wink
