Has anyone here, submitted to, and been accepted by, http://www.dmoz.org/ and if so, has it resulted in increased traffic and/or page rank?
I have read many conflicting stories on the net, and would like to hear from the horse's mouth, so to speak. |

hi Bayley. I did submit to DMOZ (march 2008)my site not knowing anything about it and i think was a mistake since it was not ready at all. In fact my site does not show in there indexing. I'm about to come out with the newer version of it pretty soon. A lot of things are much better.I will try to submit it again. If i can suggest something i would say: since it seems that DMOZ is a human-based-directory wait to submit your pages, until you have at least good contents and a clean-well organized web site structure. Otherwise be patient as i have been. As soon as i get news from my new submission i'll let you know. |

Hi Newer,
I submitted over a year ago, but nothing happened. Like you, my site probably wasn't ready either. But I re-submitted about six months ago, paying more attention to the submission guidelines, and finally got accepted this week It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference. Good luck with your submission |

Rob, Where are you listed there? I tried music>instruments>piano and couldn't find you. It looks like a neat site.

Hi Dan,
Just typing my website address into the main search box on the DMOZ site, pulls it up. The actual listing is under: Arts/music/instruments/keyboard/piano/education Don't know if it possible to get any lower Rob |

I took a web marketing class 2 1/2 years ago (that's my caveat, that the info below is 2 1/2 years old) ----
The instructor was adamant that you must list with DMOZ, but you must do your homework to ensure you're listing under the correct topic. From my notes: "DMOZ directory is considered the biggest/best and most important link to your website." The other 'biggie' when it comes to directories is the Yahoo directory -- but this one costs $300/year unless you're a NFP. My instructor suggested that $300/year MAY be a small price to pay for an important link to your website. Just more food for thought. Cindy in New Mexico |

I think I need to further clarify concerning DMOZ: just because you submit, does not mean you'll be accepted, even if you follow all the rules and jump through all the hoops. It can be a pretty frustrating process, as Bailey knows!
I've submitted 4 different websites, and only one shows up. Bummer for me. Cindy in New Mexico |

Which one made it, and what is the path to get to it?

Oddly enough, the very first website I created (which was a volunteer effort) and the most intense so far: www.allcreaturesmemorialpark.org
it's listed on DMOZ under Society: Death: Death Care: Cemeteries: Pets. Cindy in New Mexico |

At my second attempt i made it. It took a week, from the day i submitted the site, to be listed.
