Hello,
Here is the September update as to the present status of Scalable Vector Graphics from the W3C. http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/ (A)...On SVG Viewers I have tested out (again) the Adobe alpha release, version 6, of their upcoming new SVG viewer; and as well as the NEW release, version 2.1, of Corel's SVG viewer. Results: (a) I am using "SlimBrowser" instead of IE6 as the presence of IE6, Netscape 7.02, and Opera simultaneously in XP is more than Bill Gates can tolerate. Make no mistake, however, about SB. Though unheralded, SlimBrowser is first-rate -- better than IE6 by a long shot as regards the interface. (b) SlimBrowser works just fine with Adobe V.6, but I have yet to test it with Corel. (It should accept both.) Opera has a problem with embedded links not working. This needs further study in straight SVG mode before a making a recommendation or any further comments. (c) Netscape 7.02 with Corel V.2.1 also will not permit link clicking on embedded links; and the font sizes and actual fonts used is not accurate. The rendering is just fine otherwise. (d) The Corel download is messy. They need to get their act together on this. Corel is more oriented from my brief observations to developing this viewer for their own products than they are for third party vendors. (c) In short, the current SVG viewer 3.0 from Adobe isn't leaving my system any time in the immediate future. (McAfee virus scan is demanding my immediate attention. Will be back later.) Cheers, Muzz |
