I am a newbie. I've been through the forums and I have not seen anyone mention how to revise a site once it is published and sent to a host.I have nearly finished my site, and thought I would eventually like to add more pages. Any information on this topic would be appreciated. For your information, I am using SiteSpinnerV2a

Hi lefty,
When you create a website with SiteSpinner an ims file is created that contains all the site information. This is the file you would open to edit your site. You can find out more about Projects here: http://www.virtualmechanics.com/products/spinner/tutorials/wepublishing.html - Derry |

Just so I understand correctly--I was aware of the ims file, and that I could edit the site from there. But,will I need to FTP the entire file agian, or just add a page and ad the link for it on one page without sending the entire file agian? Maybe what I should ask is>>Does sending another file to the host, through FTP replace the original file for the site? Thanks,Lefty

Firstly you do not need to upload the.ims file for your web pages to work on the net (if this is part of you question). This is a unique file only used for Sitespiiner to record you project.
However, it is actually a good idea to upload the .ims file as this is a safeguard in case you have a problem with you pc. The .ims file can be downloaded from your server back into your pc. And yes, if you re-upload an exisiting page that is already on your server you will overwrite it with your revised one. You may be asked if it is ok to "Overwrite" so just agree to this. One point that you must keep in mind. Try to delete an old pages and images that you are no longer using that are left on your server after revising your project as these "redundent" files take up valued space. Using Web Engine 2 Beta |

The Publisher dialog, Pages tab, 'Page Range' lets you choose which pages you want to send to your website. So you can just send the ones that you want. The pages you send will replace the pages with the same name on your web site.
The a copy of ims file itself is sent to your web server as a backup only. You can choose not to send it by unchecking the 'Auto backup project when publishing' button in the Publisher dialog. So the usual way of working is: When you want to make a change, open the ims file, edit it, and publish all or some of the pages. Each ims file is a project that can have mutlple pages. You can make as many projects as you need but one per web site is often enough. |
